The Incumbent NRM Vice Chairperson for Kampala Region, Hon Singh Katongole has declared his intention to contest for National Vice Chairman for Kampala region once again.

According to Singh Katongole he wants to continue serving the party and mobilizing membership for ruling party despite strong opposition dominance in Kampala.

Singh Katongole trounced Godfrey Nyakaana Amooti to become the new vice-chairperson for Kampala in NRM’S top organ, the Central Executive Committee (CEC) in 2011

in the last CEC elections Mr Katongole obatined 4,503 votes against Amooti Nyakana who scooped 2,665 votes meanwhile another contender Uhuru Salim got 2,468 votes hence giving Katongole a smooth win.

In amedia interface Katongole former NRM treasurer promised to turn the fortune of his party in Kampala if he gets to represent Kampala on the Central Executive Committee again.

“Opposition has been strong in Kampala because of gaps by the current NRM Kampala leadership which I am determined to fix,” he strongly says.

Meanwhile National Resistance Movement electoral commission has announced expression of interest for members of the Central Executive Committee.

NRM ELECTORAL COMMISSION CHAIRMAN ANNOUNCING CEC TIME TABLE

Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, stated that the expression of interest and collection of nomination forms will take place from June 26 to July 1. A special day, June 28, has been designated for President Yoweri Museveni, the party’s Presidential candidate and National Chairman, to submit his forms at the NRM Electoral Commission offices between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Nomination for CEC and presidential candidates will run from July 2 to 4, with the National Chairman expected to return his forms on the final day.

Odoi emphasized that all CEC aspirants must meet strict eligibility criteria, including a clean criminal record for the past decade. Under the Parliamentary Elections Act (2005), candidates can be disqualified if convicted of crimes involving dishonesty or moral turpitude within seven years before the election or if serving a prison sentence exceeding nine months.

Additional requirements include being at least 18 years old, a registered party member, listed in the National Voter Register, and possessing proven integrity. Candidates must also demonstrate a history of service to the NRM and pay a non-refundable expression of interest fee.

As of Wednesday, the NRM Electoral Commission had nominated over 1,930 candidates for parliamentary and local council positions.

Kamuli Woman MP Rebecca Kadaga, also Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister, confirmed her bid for re-election, citing unfinished projects such as the expansion of Jinja Airstrip into an international airport. She also expressed interest in contesting for the CEC’s second female representative position.

Former Minister Zoe Bakoko Bakoru, vying for Ayivu East’s parliamentary seat in Arua, pledged to address poor service delivery and fractured regional decision-making.

Deborah Tuhirirwe Rwabwogo, NRM Lyantonde District Chairperson and Woman MP aspirant, reflected on her previous attempt a decade ago, while Tororo North County hopeful Simon Nicholas Owino prioritized youth empowerment and job creation.
