Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh has won an election with 97.8% of the vote, keeping him at the helm of the strategically-placed Horn of Africa nation for a sixth term, preliminary official results show. The Civil Society Budget Advocacy Group (CSBAG) has raised alarm over the proposed FY 2026/27 Tax Amendment Bills, warning that the measures, if implemented, will significantly increase cost of doing business. Ugandan basketball legend Norman Blick has launched a youth empowerment initiative at Kisaakye Primary School, providing equipment and athletic training to underprivileged students in a bid to bridge the gap between sports and academics. Former State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Agnes Nandutu, has been sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of diverting government iron sheets meant for vulnerable communities in the Karamoja sub-region. The Anti-Corruption Court ruled that Nandutu illegally obtained and kept 2,000 iron sheets, knowing they were not officially allocated to her and had been diverted from a public relief programme.
