Uganda has appealed to its diaspora in the Republic of Korea to channel capital, skills and technology back home, as the two countries prepare to open a trade and investment meeting aimed at deepening commercial ties. Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has signed Fresh Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Samia Bugwe and Tieng Adhola cultural institutions to strengthen the production, dissemination and use of official statistics for informed decision-making and development. The agreements were signed in Kampala formalising the collaborations in collecting, managing, validating and using statistical information to guide planning and governance within their communities. Kampala Capital City Authority has started the Shs19.2 billion rehabilitation of Kinawataka Road in Nakawa Division, with the project expected to improve transport, drainage and connectivity between Kampala, Wakiso and the Jinja corridor. The 2.32-kilometre road will be reconstructed with drainage channels, with the works handed over to RAM Contractors for implementation. Parliament has granted a tax waiver of Shs18 Billion to EACOP contractor NewPlan Limited, amidst criminal accusations against the company for issuing 26 dishonoured cheques worth Shs8.6 billion to Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). The waiver was approved during the September 2, 2026 plenary sitting, following presentation of a report by Maximus Ochai, Chairperson of Parliament’s Finance Committee. According to the Ministry of Finance, NewPlan Limited’s principal tax was Shs9,428,371,182, which attracted a penalty of Shs600,000 and interest of Shs9,434,925,492, bringing the total to Shs18,863,696,674. Starlink satellite internet has entered Uganda’s enterprise market following a partnership between Roke Telkom and Paratus Uganda Ltd, the authorised Starlink reseller in the country. The body of the late Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, will return to Uganda on Friday, September 4, as the Kingdom begins final preparations for his burial.
