WEALTH WAVE: KURA ASSET MANAGEMENT LAUNCHES TO CAPTURE UGANDA’S SHS 7 TRILLION INVESTMENT BOOM

KURA Asset Management has officially entered Uganda’s investment market, positioning itself to capture a rapidly expanding pool of individuals, families, and institutions looking beyond traditional savings accounts toward professionally managed portfolios and long-term wealth creation.

The firm’s high-profile rollout comes at a time of unprecedented growth in the domestic investment sector, driven by changing investor behavior and a massive surge in pooled funds.

Data from the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) and the Ministry of Finance highlight a massive shift in how Ugandans manage money:

Collective Investment Scheme (CIS) assets skyrocketed from roughly UGX 731 billion in June 2021 to UGX 6.02 trillion by March 2026.

Fresh Ministry of Finance statistics reveal that total CIS assets hit UGX 7.08 trillion by August 2026.

Active funded investor accounts multiplied from 29,000 to over 220,000 during the same five-year window.

The CMA has set an aggressive target to scale the number of funded accounts to one million nationwide.

Licensed and regulated by the CMA, KURA is debuting with a diversified product mix aimed at different risk profiles, liquidity needs, and currencies:

Tailored for investors seeking steady, predictable income and strict capital preservation.

Provides direct access to United States dollar-denominated investments, allowing clients to hedge against local currency inflation.

Builds customized investment strategies designed around an individual client’s specific liquidity needs and risk tolerance.

Extends beyond basic portfolios into dynastic wealth management, targeting asset protection, estate planning, multi-generational wealth transfer, family governance, and succession blueprints.

The asset manager enters the market with a leadership team pulling from deep institutional roots across East Africa.

KURA Chief Executive Officer Ronald Kasolo brings more than 20 years of experience spanning asset management, pension fund operations, and capital markets regulation. Kasolo—who has previously managed investment portfolios exceeding UGX 2 trillion—served as General Manager of Britam Asset Managers Uganda and Country Manager at GenAfrica Asset Managers Uganda, with earlier formative roles at the CMA and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).

“The first stage of this growth has been about getting more Ugandans to invest. The next will increasingly be about how they invest. As people accumulate wealth, the conversation moves beyond returns to liquidity, diversification, currency exposure, and how different investments work together. We see an opportunity to support that transition from saving to more deliberate management of wealth.”Ronald Kasolo, CEO, KURA Asset Management

KURA Board Chairman Peter Kabatsi emphasized that the company’s core strategy starts with individual suitability rather than generic product access.

“Access to investment products does not necessarily mean an investor knows what is appropriate for their circumstances,” Kabatsi noted. “KURA starts with the client: their goals, risk appetite, and long-term objectives. For families, that conversation also extends to how wealth is protected, stewarded, and transferred to the next generation.”

The official launch ceremony was officiated by the State Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Amos Lugoloobi.

Kenyan entrepreneur and corporate heavyweight Kiprono Kittony delivered the keynote address. Kittony—the Chairman of Kenya Airways and former Chairman of both the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) and the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry—focused heavily on the digital future of African capital markets.

Kittony called on regulators to build frameworks that allow innovations like Artificial Intelligence (AI), virtual assets, and tokenized securities to flourish safely while protecting consumers.

He made a strong case for deeper connectivity between East African markets, highlighting how asset managers can bridge the gap by mobilizing African savings to fund homegrown African infrastructure and investment opportunities.

The event concluded with an executive fireside panel addressing the shift from “growing riches into sustainable wealth.” The panel featured prominent entrepreneur Robert Kabonero, lawyer and businessman William Byaruhanga, and Kittony, focusing on how Uganda’s affluent class can use formal corporate structures and estate governance to shield and transfer assets across generations without friction
