Celebrated Ugandan musician Fik Fameica (Shafik Walukagga) has officially been unveiled as the brand ambassador for Spiro Uganda and East Africa. At a handover ceremony at the company’s Kampala facility, the artist was presented with a brand-new Spiro Ekon electric motorcycle, marking a major push to transition Kampala’s commercial transport sector toward massive operational cost savings.
Taking the electric bike for an introductory ride, Fik Fameica highlighted its immediate pocket-friendly advantages. By partnering with the “Sikiwa” hitmaker alongside Nigerian megastar Davido (Spiro’s Global Ambassador), Spiro is targeting Uganda’s youth and the boda boda community—the backbone of the informal economy—to champion a shift from costly fuel to high-yielding electric mobility.
For Kampala’s commercial riders, the transition to Spiro electric motorcycles represents a drastic reduction in daily running costs. Traditional fuel-powered bikes subject riders to volatile petrol prices, expensive engine oil changes, and frequent mechanical breakdowns.

Spiro’s electric model fundamentally alters the financial breakdown for a boda boda operator like Zero Fuel Costs: Fuel expenses are entirely replaced by affordable battery-swapping fees,Minimal Maintenance: Electric bikes have fewer moving parts, eliminating costs for engine oil, spark plugs, and frequent clutch replacements and guaranteed Uptime: Spiro’s rapid battery-swapping model allows riders to exchange a depleted battery for a fully charged one in under two minutes, ensuring they never lose out on passenger fares.
“This is not just about motorcycles; this is a movement. A movement for cleaner transport, cheaper transport, and more opportunity for our people,” Fik Fameica emphasized, sealing his message with his signature phrase, “Twesange ku baala!” (“Let’s meet on the road!”).
To ensure that riders can maximize their daily earnings without queuing, Spiro is aggressively scaling its infrastructure. The company is on track to deploy 50,000 electric motorcycles by the end of 2026, backed by a rapidly growing support network designed to keep riders moving and earning.
With the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Science and Technology actively finalizing customized electricity tariffs and energy-metering standards for electric vehicles, charging costs are expected to become even more competitive. Supported by government land allocations for future vehicle manufacturing, Spiro is firmly positioning the Ugandan boda boda operator to escape the fuel trap and take home significantly higher daily profits.

Spiro is Africa’s largest electric mobility company, running an ecosystem centered around electric motorcycles and rapid battery-swapping infrastructure. Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Dubai, the company has scaled across nine African nations, deploying over 130,000 electric vehicles to replace expensive, carbon-heavy fossil fuel transportation with localized clean energy networks
Spiro’s infrastructure spans major East and West African transit hubs, sustained by aggressive fundraising (including a massive $215M equity round in mid-2026 and backing from the Africa Go Green Fund)
Established operational bases in BeninTogo, and Rwanda (where 10 mega-stations are already live). Expanded into Cameroon, Tanzania, and Ghana in late 2026.
To accelerate manufacturing and environmental sustainability, Spiro works closely with global production leaders and public agencies like Yadea, to co-develop custom commercial two-wheeler platforms specifically built for rugged African road conditions.
Operates assembly plants inside the target countries to achieve up to 80% local component sourcing while generating manufacturing jobs and specialized technical skills through the Spiro Academy
Partners directly with ministries of energy and national housing corporations to secure customized electricity tariffs and massive land allocations for assembly plants
