The head of the Office of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, has criticised the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) over what she described as poor service delivery, citing high electricity tariffs and frequent power outages.
Namyalo made the remarks during a press conference at the NRM party offices, where she questioned the company’s performance and its ability to fulfil the responsibilities entrusted to it.
She expressed concern that electricity prices in Uganda remain high compared to neighbouring Kenya, where she said consumers pay less for electricity.
Namyalo suggested that some individuals could be deliberately frustrating the public in an attempt to turn people against President Yoweri Museveni by creating the impression that his government has failed to deliver on its promises.

She maintained that President Museveni wants the best for Ugandans and has implemented several initiatives to improve their welfare. However, she argued that some officials entrusted with delivering public services are failing to meet their responsibilities.
Namyalo called on the President to intervene and ensure that electricity supply becomes more reliable and affordable for Ugandans.
She also urged Parliament to investigate the challenges affecting electricity distribution and ensure that citizens receive reliable power, particularly in essential facilities such as hospitals, where interruptions can affect service delivery.

In addition, Namyalo called on Parliament to review provisions in the Constitution that she believes negatively affect citizens, although she did not specify the particular provisions during the remarks captured.
Her concerns come amid public complaints about electricity costs and interruptions, which can affect households, businesses and institutions that depend on a stable power supply.
UEDCL’s response to the concerns was not included in the information provided.
