MUSEVENI DONATES SH 2BILLION TO BUGANDA FOR KASUBI TOMBS RENOVATION

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has allocated Shs 2 billion to support the ongoing restoration of the Kasubi Royal Tombs that was damaged by fire in March 2010.

Kasubi Tombs is aUNESCO world heritage site and one of Uganda’s most significant cultural landmarks.

The funds were handed over on behalf of the President by his senior advisor, Lt. Gen. Proscovia Nalweyiso, to key cultural representatives of the Buganda Kingdom in a ceremony attended by Prince David Kintu Wasajja, Princess Victoria Nkinzi, Princess Namikka, Minister Choltilda Nakate of Buganda’s Ministry of Culture, and Buganda Kingdom’s Protocol Chief, Owek. Kaddu Kiberu.

HIS HIGNESS RONALD MUTEBI

Gen. Nalweyiso praised the Buganda Kingdom’s dedication to the restoration project, emphasizing the site’s national importance.

“The President recognizes the importance of the Kasubi Tombs not only to Buganda but to Uganda as a whole. He is committed to supporting the full restoration and long-term preservation of all royal heritage sites in the region,” she said.

Cotilda Nakate Kikomeko is the Minister of Social Services and the office of Nnaabagereka (Queen Mother) in the Buganda  Kingdom  expressed gratitude for the government’s renewed financial support and pledged the kingdom’s commitment to preserving royal heritage sites across Buganda.

“This support is not only a boost to our restoration work but also a clear recognition of the role of culture in national development. The kingdom will ensure these sites are cared for with dignity and pride,” she said.
