President Yoweri Museveni will officially grace the gradn launch the multbillion Hoima City Stadium  on 24 December 2025, marking a major milestone in preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

This is aperfect Christmas gift for Banyoro community to celebrate and we look forward to first oil in 2026.

The stadium, which has a seating capacity of 20,000, was constructed at a cost of $129 million is one of the venues that will host 2027 AFCON games when Uganda stages the tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania.

To celebrate the grand opening, Uganda Premier League clubs Kitara FC and KCCA FC will face off in the stadium’s first football match. The event will be free to attend, with fans admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Beyond its main pitch, the facility boasts a wide range of modern sports amenities, including a 2,000-seater indoor arena, a semi–Olympic size swimming pool, a training ground, outdoor courts, a fully equipped gym, office space and parking for more than 1,000 vehicles.

According to FUFA Executive Member Rogers Byamukama, the Turkish contractor, MS Suuma, has already asked FUFA to invite CAF and FIFA to assess and certify the stadium before it is officially handed over to the government.

The newly completed Hoima City Stadium has received a perfect 5-star rating, confirming that it fully meets the standards set by both the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The rating follows an independent site assessment conducted on 5 November 2025, which evaluated the facility’s design, pitch quality, and overall readiness to host top-tier football competitions.

According to the Minister of State for Sports, Peter Ogwang, the stadium’s pitch achieved an impressive 115 out of 115 points, a flawless score that reflects outstanding performance across all assessment parameters.

“This is a proud moment for Uganda. The stadium’s perfect rating demonstrates our commitment to international sports standards,” Ogwang said.

With this rating, Hoima City Stadium now ranks among the best football venues in the region, positioning Uganda to host major international matches and continental tournaments.

The milestone comes shortly after the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) confirmed that construction had been fully completed and that the facility was awaiting final certification from FIFA and CAF before being officially handed over to the government.

The modern stadium is expected to play a vital role in advancing Uganda’s sports infrastructure, providing a world-class platform for both local and international competitions, and boosting Hoima’s status as a growing sports and tourism hub in western Uganda.
