After serving deligently for 36 years, Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola has retired from Uganda Police.

He assumed Uganda Police highest office in 2018 after massive shake-up that ousted General Kale Kayihura.

When his first three-year contract expired in March 2021, President Yoweri Museveni extended it for another three years which expired on March, 4.

“On 2nd January 2024, I made a service record of thirty-six years in the Uganda Police Force, having joined the Institution on the 2nd January 1988. Within this period, which was climaxed by my appointment as Inspector General of Police, I was particularly fortunate to have served as a Deputy IGP, Director Special Duties, Director CID, Deputy Director CID, Commissioner Legal Department, Head complaints desk, Head Prosecution and OC Entebbe Aviation Security, “Ochola said while handing iver office in Kampala.

” On the 4th March 2018, His Excellency The President appointed me as the Inspector General of Police which position I assumed with humility, commitment, dedication and determination. Three years after my appointment, the President extended my tour of duty for another three years which ends today, the 4th March 2024, “he added.

About Martin Okoth Ochola

Born 1958, in Agumiti village, Mulanda sub-county, West Budama County, in Tororo District, Ochola attended Abweli Primary School, then Rock View Primary School and Kisoko Boys Primary School, where he sat his primary leaving examinations. He attended Namilyango College, where he obtained his high school diploma.

He then studied at Makerere University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1983.

He then obtained a postgraduate diploma in legal practice, from the Law Development Centre.

The current Uganda Police Force was eatablished under Article 212 of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda. It is charged with advancement and enhancement of peace, stability, order and adherence to the rule of law.
