Busiro East Member of Parliament Medard Lubega Sseggona has officially announced his exit from active politics after lossing miserably to National Unity Platfrom flag bearer in the just concluded parliamentary elections.

Sseggona, a seasoned lawyer and outspoken legislator, said his decision was guided by faith and a belief that his political journey had run its course after serving three terms in Parliament.

“I am going to spend more time with my family. I wish Magoola good leadership,” Sseggona said, referring to his successor. “I am going to enter private life, to lead my family. I will look after and help those God has placed in my hands. I am out of politics for now.”he stated.

SSegona says he is leaving public office a happy man, saying his time in Parliament  was due according to God’s purpose for his life.

“Thank you for the three terms you have given me. God’s plan was that I would serve only three terms,” he stressed.

About Medard  Ssegona

Sseggona has been one of the most visible opposition voices in Parliament over the years, earning a reputation for sharp legal arguments, principled positions, and fearless debate on constitutionalism, governance, and human rights. His contributions often went beyond party lines, with many colleagues acknowledging his depth in legal reasoning and parliamentary procedure.

He was born on 1st September 1975,attended Mayungwe Primary School before joining Entebbe Parents Secondary School for his O-level education, and Caltec Academy Makerere for his A-level education. He earned a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from  Makerere University  in 2001, and obtained a Diploma in Legal Practice  from Law Development Centre in 2002

After completing his legal training, Sseggona worked as a lecturer at Makerere University Business School  in 2002–2003. Since 2003, he has been a managing partner at Lukwago & Co. Advocates alongside  Erias Lukwago  a law firm known for representing political activists and contesting key constitutional issues.

In 2006 to 2010, Ssegona served as the Minister of Information/Spokesperson for the Buganda Kingdom Mengo before joining active politics then elected to Parliament in 2011, representing Busiro East.

Political career and Roles at Parliament

He has served as Member of Parliament for Busiro County East I for three terms. While at Parliament ssegona was appointed  Chairperson of the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee of Commsssions ,Statutory Authoriites and Stae Enterpise (COSASE). In july  2025, he was elected Chairperson of the African Organization of Public Accounts Committees (AFROPAC).

Since taking over Uganda’s PAC, Sseggona has consistently advocated for strict adherence to professional standards, discipline, and time management. He has pledged to bring the same values to AFROPAC, aiming to strengthen oversight institutions through advocacy, capacity building, and research.

His presence at the Nigeria summit reflects Uganda’s increasing influence in continental parliamentary affairs and signals a renewed focus on collaborative governance reforms.

As AFROPAC Chair, Sseggona is expected to champion reforms that enhance financial oversight, improve accountability mechanisms, and foster integrity across member states—key pillars in the pursuit of a more transparent and prosperous Africa

He was associated with the Democratic Party (DP) before joining National Unity Platfrom  (NUP) in 2020. In June 2025, he announced ambitions to succeed  Robert Kyagulanyi “Bobi Wine” as NUP leader but in October 2025, he quit NUP and declared he would run as an independent in the 2026 elections for Busiro East going against Mathis Walukaga, NUP candidate
