BUNYORO LEADERS ASK MUSEVENI TO ADDRESS 16 DEMANDS

Bunyoro Leaders from all the 10 Districts have submitted a memorandum to President Yoweri Museveni requesting him to address 16 issues to enhance socio-economic development in the region.

“Your Excellency, we thank you for the theme of this country-wide tour-“Securing our future through wealth creation and shared prosperity”which resonates very well with the aspirations of the people of Bunyoro,” said Karubanga the Chairperson Bunyoro Parliamentary Caucus on behalf of the other leaders.

Preesenting the issues Jacob Karubanga at Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba (UPIK) on the 20th March, 2025 on behalf of all the leaders,they sked government to expedite the process of Systematic land demarcation for Tenants on Mailo land of Absentee Landlords especially in the Districts of Kibaale, Kakumiro and Kagadi – the Former Lost Counties.

“We also request for the roll out of the programme for Systematic Demarcation, survey and titling of land across the Sub-region. This will check the challenge of escalating land conflicts within the Sub-region,” Karubanga said.

They further asked the government to extend special funding to support the promotion of Palm oil, coffee and cocoa growing across the Sub-region through provision of free seedlings and associated Inputs, extension services and market support.

BUNYORO LEADERS PRESENT 16 DEMANDS TO PRESIDENT YOWERI MUSEVENI

They also asked for increased support for Mechanization and Water for Production/Irrigation across the Sub-region to enhance Sustainable Production, Productivity and Profitability.

In the health sector, the leaders asked the government to provide further support for the improvement of Health Services in Bunyoro Sub-region through comprehensive rehabilitation of Masindi and Kagadi Hospitals, Provision of Constituency Ambulances to the remaining 14 Constituencies to improve the referral system and support the establishment of District General Hospitals in the Districts of Kakumiro, Kibaale, Kikuube, Buliisa and Hoima.

Still in health they requested for support to the construction of the stalled Maternal Child Health Care (MCH) Complex at the Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, equip and operationalize the now ready Hoima Intensive Care Unit, establish Health Center III’s in Sub-counties where they don’t exist and expedite the process of upgrading Kiryandongo Hospital to a Highway Referral Hospital to effectively respond to accident victims on the Gulu-Kampala highway.

In the roads sector, the leaders asked the President for the upgrade of the following Roads in Bunyoro Sub-region: Kyegegwa-Hapuuyo-Karuguuza-Kisalizi-Birembo with an extension to Bugwara-Paacwa and Kikwaya, Kakumiro-Nkooko-Masodde with an extension to Kisiita-Nalweyo road, Muhorro-Kyaterekera-Ndaiga road, Ngangi-Nyamarwa-Mubende Road, Katasiha-Kihomboza-Mbraara-Karongo road and Kisukuma-Bombo-Nyakabingo road. Other roads included Kigorobya-Kibiro Salt Mine Road, Katasiha-Bugambe-Buseruka road, Pakanyi-Nyakarongo-Kiryandongo Diika to Bweyale road, completion of Masindi – Biiso Road, Katulikire-Atura to Oyam and provision of Atura Ferry, Nyakadoti-Kimogora to Kawiti road, Nkondo-Kyamujundo-Nalweyo road, Ngoma-Masindi road, Hoima Stadium roads, Kinyara-drop-off road from Masindi to Kabango, Kisabagwa-Kabalikera-Nyamirima-Busuuga road and also asked for Passenger and Cargo Ferry services on lake Albert to boost trade within Uganda and the DR Congo.

The leaders asked for support for establishment of Modern Central Markets in Kagadi, Kibaale, Kakumiro, Kigorobya, Masindi and Bweyale.

They also asked for Support to increase clean and safe water coverage in Bunyoro Sub-region through establishment of an improved water source in every village that does not have it along with establishment of Piped Water Systems for Rural Growth Centres.

In the field of electricity, the leaders asked for the expansion of electricity distribution network across the region to boost industrialization and the service sector, Expedite the process of Electric Fencing along the Wildlife Conservation Areas to minimize Wildlife-Human conflicts and supporting Muslim District Khadis (Leaders) with means of transport. (There are four Muslim Districts in Bunyoro Sub-region).

Other issues raised were to support the establishment of two other Industrial Skilling Hubs in Greater Kibaale and Greater Hoima, support the Fishing communities with a special fund to enable them acquire appropriate fishing gear to prevent illegal fishing and enhance their livelihoods and asked government to resettle or compensate families affected by evictions in the sub region for instance Kibyama and Nyama in Kiryandongo District, Kigyayo and Bukinda in Kyangwali in Kikuube District, Kapaapi, Lenju, Runga, Waaki and Rwobunyonyi in Hoima District.

The President was in Bunyoro and visited the Districts of Buliisa, Hoima, Kikuube, Hoima City, Masindi and Kiryandongo and addressed a public rally at Kahunde playground in Kagadi District as he climaxed his regional tour as he mobilized the Wanainchi to embrace government programmes such as PDM, Emyooga under the theme “Securing your future through Shared Wealth creation and prosperity”.
