“I CONTRIBUTED MONEY TO ANITA AMONG BUILDINGS,”MUSEVENI

After week long media black mail of Anita Among,President Yoweri Museveni has acknowledged financing Anita Among properties in Kampala and Bukedea District.

“Yes,i have received reports that she has accumulated a lot of money, she has 50 houses. But this information I need to verify it because I know her house in Ntinda,”he stated in Thursday meeting.

“I am the one who bought it for her. This house in Nakasero, I contributed money to her buying and building it. The house in Kigo, I also gave her some money. So I know about that. And the farm in Bukedea, I am the one who gave her 200 cows, when I visited her after 5 years, they had grown to 2,000 or something like that. So at least some of this wealth I know about it and I was an active participant in their creation. Now, what I need to investigate is these other 50 houses they are talking about. But otherwise, these people are lying,”the President stressed.

The President further says no to  General Muhoozi Kainerugabae endorsement of Oboth Oboth as 12th Speaker of Parliament.

CDF General Muhoozi Kainerugaba had endorsed Oboth Oboth for Speaker of Parliament.

“No, no, no, no, you don’t have to worry, remember the CEC of NRM has already endorsed you. I signed the declaration of CEC. How can I, have you ever known me to change my agreement? The President told Anita Among on thursday leaving  Anita Among re-energized that she is still in play.

While she was initially considered and widely backed earlier in the year, the party leadership subsequently dropped her ahead of the official leadership races. During a crucial meeting chaired by President Yoweri Museveni, CEC instead agreed to field outgoing Defense Minister Jacob Oboth-Oboth as the official NRM flag-bearer for Speaker.

Latest Development

in Uganda’s Parliament, three candidates have expressed interest in the Speaker position, while 16 lawmakers are contesting for the Deputy Speaker slot. This update comes from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission as part of the party’s internal expression of interest exercise

However National Resistance Movement (NRM) is under intense pressure from sections of its supporters and mobilization structures to maintain gender balance in the leadership of the incoming 12th Parliament, as internal discussions over the Deputy Speaker position continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2026 general elections.

With growing speculation that the Speakership could be occupied by a male legislator, a section of party members is now openly advocating for Mbale City Woman MP Lydia Wanyoto Mutende to be considered for the Deputy Speaker role.

Several party mobilizers and women leaders argue that maintaining gender representation at the apex of Parliament would be consistent with the ruling party’s long-standing position on inclusive governance and women empowerment.

Some supporters have also questioned what they describe as unequal treatment of leaders associated with controversies surrounding Parliament, insisting that fairness and political accountability should apply uniformly across all leaders regardless of their positions.

According to party insiders, the ongoing lobbying is not solely about individuals competing for office, but also about how the NRM rewards loyalty and sustained grassroots mobilization ahead of a crucial electoral cycle.

Supporters backing Ms Wanyoto point to her active participation in recent NRM mobilization campaigns across various parts of the country, particularly among women and youth groups mobilizing support for President Yoweri Museveni ahead of the 2026 elections.

“She has remained visible and active even outside election periods. Many leaders only emerge during campaigns, but she has consistently defended and mobilized for the party,” said an NRM mobilizer from eastern Uganda who preferred anonymity due to the sensitivity of the discussions.

Others within the party argue that leaders who continue to sacrifice for party structures during politically difficult periods deserve recognition when key leadership positions are being considered.

Beyond mobilization politics, Ms Wanyoto’s supporters also cite her legislative and diplomatic background as a major asset.
