UBOS SURVEYS GOES LIVE AMIDST EBOLA OUT BREAK

Following heightened public health precautions  on Ebola outbreak,,Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS)  will now  disseminate  Uganda harmonised Integrated Survey Report virtually and on live  broadcast  on major television stations.

In a public statement issued on Wednesday, UBOS said the release of the report, scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026, will be streamed live on UBC TV, NBS TV, NTV, BBS TV, TV West and the agency’s YouTube channel instead of hosting invited guests physically.
The decision comes amid growing regional vigilance after Uganda confirmed imported Ebola cases connected to the DRC, prompting institutions and government agencies to reduce large physical gatherings as part of preventive measures.
UBOS Executive Director Chris N. Mukiza said the shift is intended to protect stakeholders while ensuring uninterrupted dissemination of one of the country’s most important socio-economic surveys.
“This is, therefore, to inform all those who had received invitation for physical attendance to follow the proceedings on the mentioned television stations and YouTube channel,” the statement noted.
The Uganda Harmonised Integrated Survey Report is expected to provide fresh data on household incomes, expenditure patterns, employment, poverty levels, consumption trends and broader socio-economic indicators that are critical for business planning, investment decisions and government policy formulation.
Economists and private sector players closely monitor UBOS surveys because they offer insights into consumer behaviour, inflation pressures, labour market dynamics and regional economic activity, all of which influence investment strategies and fiscal planning.
The report is also expected to provide updated statistics that could guide financial institutions, manufacturers, telecom companies, retailers and development agencies in assessing household welfare and market demand across the country.
Analysts say the decision to move the dissemination to broadcast and digital platforms reflects how public institutions are increasingly adapting to health emergencies while maintaining continuity in economic communication and data sharing.
The latest move mirrors lessons learned during previous health crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, when many government agencies adopted hybrid and virtual operations to sustain public engagement and essential services.
Uganda has in recent years intensified investments in data collection and digital statistical systems as part of efforts to strengthen evidence-based planning and attract investment through reliable economic indicators.
The dissemination of the survey report is expected to attract attention from policymakers, investors, researchers, development partners and the business community, particularly at a time when Uganda is navigating regional health concerns alongside ongoing economic recovery efforts.
