JUUKO TAKES THE THRONE: EADB’S NEW FINANCIAL EMPRESS

Anne Juuko officially took command of the East African Development Bank (EADB) on October 2, 2026, ending nearly two years of interim limbo. Appointed directly by the bank’s Governing Council in Kampala, the banking powerhouse replaces Acting Director General Benard P. Mono, who has been holding the fort since Vivienne Yeda’s exit in late 2024.

Juuko isn’t just taking a seat; she is taking over a regional giant that is suddenly flush with cash. EADB is riding an explosive wave, boasting a 51 percent surge in pre-tax profits and a staggering 140 percent explosion in loan disbursements in 2025.

Backed by Rwanda’s Finance Minister Yusuf Murangwa and armed with two decades of cutthroat market experience from Stanbic and Standard Bank Group, Juuko’s mission is clear: weaponize this momentum, hunt down massive long-term capital, and aggressively expand the bank’s footprint across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda. EADB’s quiet era is over.

The transition was formalised in Kampala during a meeting of the Governing Council chaired by Rwanda’s Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Yusuf Murangwa.

Juuko takes over with more than two decades of experience in banking, financial markets and executive management across East and Southern Africa.

She previously served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Stanbic Bank Uganda before moving to Standard Bank Group’s regional operations in 2024, where she became Regional Head of Global Markets for Eastern Africa.

At EADB, Juuko says her immediate focus will be on expanding the bank’s development finance activities, mobilising new sources of long-term funding and building partnerships that can increase its reach across the region.

The leadership change comes alongside governance reforms approved by the Governing Council as the institution seeks to build on recent financial performance.

EADB reported a 51 percent increase in profit before tax in 2025, while loan disbursements increased by 140 percent, according to reports on the appointment.

The bank’s mandate covers Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda, where it provides development financing intended to support economic growth and regional integration.
