Singer Moses Ssali aka Bebe Cool tecently released his new EP Risk and one of  the top trending song is Kakebere meaning testto confirm paternity testing of children and land titles etc…

As the  debate over DNA testing in Uganda intensifies following the release of late Kadongo Kamu star Paul Kafeero’s results, which revealed that only four out of 25 people who claimed to be his children were biologically his men have been cornered either to embrace DNA test or die in silence.

While some argue that the government should make DNA tests mandatory at birth, others strongly oppose the idea, warning that it could undermine trust within families.

The results later showed he was not the biological father. Despite this, Bobi Wine said he would continue to support the child due to the bond they had formed over time.

According to Dr Diana Atwine Ministry of Health DNA uptake in Uganda centers largely on the surge of private paternity testing and the advancement of national forensic and medical genomics stressing that  With up to 30% of tested cases historically showing presumed fathers are not the biological parents, demand for testing is exceptionally high.

She however clarified that DNA testing in Uganda is strictly regulated, with the Ministry of Health authorizing only specific laboratories to conduct paternity and forensic testing.

“The entire process requires official identification, and home-based DNA test kits ordered online are strictly prohibited in the country. To ensure legally valid and accurate results, you must use authorized testing facilities,”Dr Diana Atwine said.

According to her the primary Ministry of Health-approved laboratories include

MBN Clinical Laboratories ocated at Plot 28 Nakasero Road, Kampala. They are globally accredited (AABB) and operate satellite sample collection branches across the country (including Jinja, Mbale, Gulu, Arua, and Mbarara). You can view their service offerings and pricing on the  MBN Clinical laboratory  site

Directorate of Government Analytical Laboratory (DGAL)in Wandegeya, Kampala, this is the official state forensic facility used for official and court-ordered cases and GMI Labs  at Makerere University School of Medicine,

At these facilities price for DNA generally range from UGX 385,000 to UGX 485,000 per sample depending on the accreditation level required
