Ministry of Public Service has declared Friday, May 10th, 2024, a public holiday to enable citizens to fully participate in the sixth National Housing and Population Census exercise.

Uganda Bureau of Statistics(UBOS) Chairperson Dr Albert Byamugisha said this in his address to the Media at Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala during weekly media briefing.

“The public is encouraged to stay at home during the census period and cooperate with enumerators to ensure accurate and comprehensive data collection,” Dr Byamugisha said.

The Ubos chairperson emphasized the importance of every individual being counted saying; “It’s important that everyone is counted.”

He stressed that Enumerators will be accompanied by their respective LC1 leaders who will introduce them to different households.

Byamugisha reassured the public that even if they are not counted on the first day, there will be ample opportunity to participate throughout the duration of the census.

“If you are not counted on Day One, it doesn’t mean you are not counted,” he said.

The census, slated to run for 10 days from May 10 to May 19, aims to gather crucial information about the country’s population and housing demographics.

The activity kicks off with the census night on Thursday, May 9 with a total of 114,460 enumerators and their 18,483 supervisors expected to engage in door-to-door exercise.

The findings from the census are expected to play a pivotal role in government planning efforts, guiding policies and resource allocation to meet the needs of the population.

Uganda government has sunk shs 320billion into census exercise.

Preliminary census results will be unveiled in June while final census announced in December
