In an effort to impact society, Clarke International University will hold inaugural Alumni Awards this December to help inspire current students and former graduates become change makers.

CIU Alumni Association Patron, Everyn Ayot, invites all CIU alumni to join them in recognizing outstanding graduates at the Alumni Gala Awards this December.

“Nominate your fellow alumni who have made an impact, and mark your calendars for the celebration on December 13, 2024,” Ayot said at the recent Alumni Gala Award Dinner launch in Muyenga.

“This celebration is a continuation of success and contributions of our alumni while strengthening the enduring bond between graduates and the university,”she added.

The Vice Chancellor Prof Rose Nanyonga says building on a rich legacy, Clarke International University (CIU) has evolved from its roots as International Health Sciences University (IHSU), a niche institution renowned for its excellence in health-related training.

“From humble beginnings as a Nursing School, IHSU expanded to encompass diverse schools, including the Institute of Public Health and Management, Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Family Medicine, ICT in Health, and the School of Nursing and Midwifery. While our curriculum has been innovative, its scope has been limited. Embracing a new brand identity, CIU is poised to diversify its program offerings, fostering continued growth and expansion, ”
Nanyonga stressed.

Dr. Ian Clark, Chairman of the University encouraged government to to work with the private sector to improve access to quality healthcare.

Dr. Ian Clark said, pooling of resources through public-private partnerships can increase access to quality healthcare in the country.

“Government is good at preventive healthcare like vaccination and detecting emergencies like Ebola while the private hospitals are good at high level specialized healthcare services. Let’s work out a system. It’s not a competition,” said Clarke.

Clark urged the government to speed up the implementation of the National Health Insurance Policy to bring about equality in accessing healthcare.

“The hospital bills are very expensive and patients cannot afford to pay at once but through a medical insurance scheme and contributory pension for the public sector, access to quality healthcare can become easy,” said Clark.
