RUSSIA CONDEMNS US VENEZUELLA AGGRESSION

The Republic of Russia  has issued a fierce condemnation of the United States’ overnight military strike on Venezuela, labeling it  as outright “armed aggression” that demands global outrage.

According to CNBC, Russia’s “most prominent” Latin American relationship is with Venezuela. Conversely, Venezuela’s primary geopolitical ally is Russia. Venezuela was reported to have extradited two Colombian members of Ukraine’s military to Russia after they flew from Ukraine to Colombia via Caracas.

The US attack led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, has ignited fears of broader conflict in Latin America.

“This morning, the US committed an act of armed aggression against Venezuela. This development gives rise to deep concern and warrants condemnation,” said the statement.

Officials slammed the US justifications as “untenable,” arguing that “Ideologized animosity has prevailed over pragmatic engagement, as well as over any readiness to build relations based on trust and predictability.”

“We proceed from the understanding that all parties that may have grievances against one another must seek solutions through dialogue-based mechanisms. We stand ready to support such efforts.”a statement further reads.

The Kremlin reiterated its unwavering solidarity with Venezuela.

“We reaffirm our solidarity with the Venezuelan people and our support for the course pursued by its Bolivarian leadership, aimed at safeguarding the country’s national interests and sovereignty,” noted the statement. Russia backed calls for an urgent UN Security Council meeting and insisted Latin America remain a “zone of peace,” as proclaimed in 2014, free from destructive external meddling.

Russia and Venezuela run  have strong ties bolstering Moscow’s staunch defense. Diplomatic relations date back to 1945, with early contacts in the 18th century. Under Hugo Chávez, bonds strengthened dramatically through massive arms deals—Russia supplied over $10 billion in weapons since the mid-2000s—and energy partnerships. Billions in loans and investments, exceeding $17 billion since 2006, cemented economic alliances in oil and gas. Russia has consistently shielded Venezuela from US sanctions, providing military aid and diplomatic cover amid political crises.
