Korea Ambassador in Uganda Park Sung-soo, has pledged to strengthen Korea -Uganda bilateral relations

Officiating at the National Day and Armed Forces Day Reception of the Republic of Korea in Kampala,Park Sung this year’s celebration holds particular significance for Korea as a new administration is led by President Lee Jae-myung, has recently taken office, opening a new chapter for our nati

“As we celebrate two remarkable milestones in Korea’s history:October 3rd, our National Foundation Day, which marks more than 4,300 years of our proud history; and October 1st, Armed Forces Day, honoring those who have dedicated their live / to protecting our freedom and democracy,The new government is pursuing a Pragmatic Diplomacy-a diplomacy built upon strong democracy, that seeks mutually beneficial partnerships, beyond ideology, and with the support of people,” he said.

According to Ambassador Park this vision resonates deeply with Uganda’s foreign policy of Commercial and Economic Diplomacy, / which promotes value addition, trade and investment, / and sustainable growth through international cooperation.

“Both our governments share a common aspiration – to advance practical collaboration / that brings real benefits to our peoples. Furthermore, the new Korean administration is expanding its global K-Initiatives, sharing Korea’s soft power and expertise— from our vibrant culture to cutting-edge technology. Through these initiatives, we look forward to deeper friendship and stronger partnership between Korea and Uganda,”he stated.

The night celebration  carried a dual significance as it marked both Korea’s National Foundation Day and Armed Forces Day, symbolizing the spirit of national identity and the commitment to peace and security that define the Republic of Korea today.

Yun Seong Shin SECOND Secretary at the Embassy emphasized that National Foundation Day (Gaecheonjeol) commemorates the legendary founding of the first Korean nation, Gojoseon, by Dangun Wanggeom in 2333 BCE.

“For Koreans, this day embodies the values of creativity, unity, and resilience—principles that have guided the nation from its ancient origins to its remarkable transformation into a modern democracy and global economic leader,”Yun stated.

“Celebrating this day abroad highlights the continuity of Korean identity and the importance of sharing Korea’s heritage and values with international partners such as Uganda,”he added.

According to Yun Armed Forces Day, established in 1948, honors the founding of the Republic of Korea’s Armed Forces and pays tribute to the men and women who have dedicated themselves to defending freedom and peace on the Korean Peninsula and beyond.

“It also reflects Korea’s commitment to global peacekeeping and international security cooperation, including through partnerships with African nations.By celebrating this day in Uganda, the Embassy underscores the shared dedication of both countries to peace, stability, and mutual development,”he explained.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa who presided as chief guest expressed gratitude and commitment to working with Korea to deepen cooperation to better the two countries going forward.
