President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has held high-level talks with Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, focusing on deepening bilateral economic cooperation and addressing regional water security concerns.

The meeting took place on Monday, August 4, 2025, at State House Entebbe, where Dr. Abdelatty delivered warm greetings and a special message from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

Dr. Abdelatty proposed the creation of a joint Egyptian-Ugandan business council to spur investment in key sectors such as construction, pharmaceuticals, and energy. He also highlighted a new Egyptian financing mechanism designed to support development projects in southern Nile Basin countries.

EGYPT FOREIGN MINISTER IN AMEETING

“It’s a great honor and pleasure to be here to convey the best wishes from your brother President Abdel Fattah, who is looking forward to discussing with you and hopefully have a business forum where the business community can explore the existing opportunities for investment and mutual benefits,” he said.

He commended President Museveni’s leadership, describing him as a visionary voice for Pan-Africanism and South-South cooperation.

The leaders discussed the urgent need to enhance cooperation in areas including energy, security, digitalization, and environmental protection. Dr. Abdelatty also applauded Uganda’s role in regional peacekeeping efforts, especially in Somalia and other conflict-affected nations.

PRESIDENT MUSEVENI SHARES AMEETING

President Museveni reiterated Uganda’s commitment to regional stability and emphasized the importance of safeguarding Africa’s water resources.

“The African waters must be preserved to ensure long-term prosperity and peace,” President Museveni said, as the two sides acknowledged Egypt’s long-standing concerns over Nile water security.

The meeting was attended by Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Okello Oryem, and Minister of State for Environment, Hon. Beatrice Anywar.
