The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Diaspora Campaign Taskforce has officially launched a global campaign aimed at uniting Ugandans abroad in support of President Yoweri Museveni and the NRM flagbearers as Uganda approaches its upcoming elections. The campaign is grounded on pillars of peace, national unity, and patriotism.
At a high-profile press briefing in Kampala, Boaz Byayesu, Head of Media and Public Relations for the Taskforce, praised President Museveni’s visionary leadership and his role as a stabilizing force driving Uganda’s remarkable development over recent decades. Museveni was lauded for his commitment to peace, poverty eradication, and infrastructure development that have benefited millions both locally and in the diaspora.
The Taskforce also commended Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, NRM Secretary General, for his exemplary management of party affairs, grassroots mobilization, and ensuring party cohesion during this critical electoral period. His dedication to upholding NRM values and unity was highlighted as key to the party’s electoral strength.
Special recognition was given to Ambassador Abbey Walusimbi and Major Rtd. Awich Pollar for their leadership in diaspora engagement. Their strategic support has laid a strong foundation for the Taskforce’s work.
The historic Taskforce includes prominent diaspora leaders such as Henreitta Nairuba and Gakwavu Susan, among others, and five Presidential aides, underscoring broad diaspora commitment. The group aims to promote inclusiveness, reject divisive politics, and mobilize Ugandans abroad for elections.
Regional coordinators span Uganda’s sub-regions, ensuring diverse diaspora voices are effectively represented. The Taskforce also capitalizes on advancements like dual citizenship, improved consular services, and aims to encourage Ugandans, particularly those near national borders, to return home and vote.
Leadership of the Taskforce features SPA Philip Kakuru as Chairperson and a cohesive steering committee that oversees political mobilization, media, women and youth engagement, legal affairs, health response, manifesto dissemination, and regional coordination.
The campaign will deploy over 50 branded vehicles, distribute thousands of yellow T-shirts, and use digital tools for wider diaspora outreach. Leaders underscored unity’s power with a shared commitment to deliver a landslide victory exceeding 85 percent.
In closing, the Taskforce reaffirmed commitment to confronting divisive politics and building unity centered on peace, patriotism, and national progress. Diaspora Ugandans were urged to actively support President Museveni for continued growth and prosperity.
