President  Yoweri Museveni has met a delegation of Muslim leaders at State Lodge, Nakasero, to discuss national unity, peace, and socio-economic transformation.

The delegation, drawn from Western, Eastern, Northern and Central Uganda, was led by former First Deputy Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Abdallah Ssemambo.

During the meeting, President Museveni commended the Muslim leadership for its continued contribution to national development and for guiding the Muslim community.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with religious institutions to address community needs and improve the welfare of citizens.

“We have no issue with religious beliefs because God is one. Your different ways of looking at Him are your issues. As long as you don’t break the law, I have no problem at all,” President Museveni said.

The President also urged Muslim leaders to promote wealth creation as a pathway to lifting communities out of poverty.

“We should also concentrate on wealth creation. Whatever you believe in, please get out of poverty,” he added.

President Museveni thanked the Muslim community for its continued support of the National Resistance Movement (NRM). He cited businessman and politician Hassan Basajjabala as an example of how economic empowerment and political participation can go hand in hand.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Sheikh Ssemambo thanked the President for engaging Muslim leaders and for his support to the Muslim community.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank you for inviting us and for the great work you have done to develop this country, Your Excellency,” Sheikh Ssemambo said.

He also commended President Museveni for upholding freedom of worship in Uganda and reaffirmed the Muslim leadership’s commitment to working with the government to promote unity, peaceful coexistence and development.

Former Bunyoro-Tooro Regional Kadhi, Sheikh Muhammad Irumba, also praised President Museveni’s leadership, thanking him for steering Uganda’s development.

The meeting underscored continued collaboration between government and religious leaders in strengthening national cohesion and advancing socio-economic development.
