MTN Mobile Money Uganda Limited has announced a major push into the retail e-commerce space with the launch of its Sambagala Full Time promotional campaign.
MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) continues to experience rapid expansion as the leading fintech platform across Africa, posting robust double-digit growth in users, transaction volumes, and lending. In Uganda, fintech revenue surged to Shs 1.1 trillion, supported by a network of over 241,000 agents and 14.7 million active fintech users.
The initiative offers consumers discounts of up to 88 percent on electronics, home appliances, and household essentials through its digital marketplace, Market by MoMo.

The strategy signals MTN MoMo’s deliberate expansion beyond financial transactions as it seeks to leverage its massive mobile wallet subscriber base to capture a larger share of Uganda’s digital retail market. The company aims to position its platform as a highly competitive digital neighborhood marketplace, offering secure mobile money payments coupled with direct home delivery.
Brian Mutungi, the country lead for e-commerce at Market by MoMo, stated that the campaign responds directly to shift in consumer behavior, where buyers increasingly demand verified value and logistical convenience.
“Through Market by MoMo, shoppers can access a wide variety of products, make secure payments using MTN MoMo and receive their purchases without the hassle of moving from store to store,” Mutungi said.

To drive immediate adoption, the telecom subsidiary has heavily anchored the campaign on high-demand consumer electronics and home assets. Prominent price reductions include a Smartec 55-inch Android frameless television slashed from 2 million Ugandan shillings to 992,000 shillings, and an ADH 120-liter double-door top freezer reduced from 600,000 shillings to 443,000 shillings.
Smaller electronic accessories, such as Oraimo 10,000 milliampere-hour power banks and P47 Bluetooth headsets, have also seen deep double-digit percentage price cuts to incentivize high-volume, low-friction transactions.
To sustain consumer engagement online, the campaign incorporates interactive social media challenges where participants can win digital shopping vouchers and direct cart-clearance prizes.
Consumers can access the promotional marketplace through the standalone market.momo.africa web portal or directly via the integrated Market by MoMo interface within the primary MTN MoMo smartphone application.
MTN Mobile Money Uganda Limited operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of MTN Uganda Limited, anchoring the telecom giant’s fintech business with a active user base exceeding 14 million subscribers nationwide.
