Katwe residents can now learn digital skills, access internet connectivity, and modern learning resources following the launch of a new digital learning hub courtesy of stakeholders.

The hub was established by Kampala Community Gains Digital Skills and Internet Access as New Learning Hub Opens in Katwe Kampala Community Gains Digital Skills and Internet Access as New Learning Hub Opens in Katwe American Tower Corperation (ATC) Uganda in partnership with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), Stanbic Bank Uganda, Stanbic Kenya Foundation, and Katwe Noor Secondary School as part of ongoing efforts to expand access to technology and bridge the digital divide.

The facility, located at Katwe Noor Secondary School, provides learners and surrounding community members with computers, online resources, and digital training tools aimed at supporting education, innovation, and economic opportunity.

The Katwe Noor Digital Community is part of ATC’s broader Digital Communities initiative, which focuses on creating connected learning spaces in underserved areas.

The programme seeks to enhance digital literacy, widen access to education, and equip communities with practical career skills, with a global target of impacting at least two million people by 2030.

Speaking at the launch, Eng. Alfred Bogere, Director of Engineering and Communications Infrastructure at UCC, representing Executive Director Hon. Nyombi Thembo, emphasized the transformative role of digital access in driving education, innovation, and economic participation.

“As regulators and policymakers, we remain committed to fostering an enabling environment that supports expanded connectivity, affordable access, innovation, and responsible digital development.

Uganda’s Digital Transformation Roadmap envisions a fully connected nation where technology enhances service delivery, drives innovation, and creates opportunities for all citizens. Today’s launch is not just an event—it is a milestone in our journey toward a digitally empowered Uganda,” he said.

ATC Uganda noted that it has established 83 Digital Communities across the country over the past six years, including 58 computer hubs in schools and communities and 25 Electronic Medical Records hubs in health facilities, collectively benefiting more than 100,000 people.

ATC Uganda Chief Executive Officer Dorothy Ssemanda highlighted the company’s commitment to linking connectivity infrastructure with meaningful community impact.

“Connectivity becomes truly valuable when it transforms lives. Through the Digital Communities programme, we are investing not only in infrastructure but also in human potential. Digital access has the power to unlock education opportunities, support entrepreneurship, expand access to information, and create pathways to economic empowerment,” she said.

Stanbic Bank Uganda Executive Director Sam Mwogeza said the initiative aligns with the bank’s broader focus on youth empowerment, digital literacy, and community development.

“Through our Positive Impact Agenda, we have committed up to Shs 1 trillion to support enterprises led by women, youth, and farmers. These efforts align with our strategic priorities, including financial inclusion, enterprise development, job creation, infrastructure investment, climate resilience, and corporate social investment,” Mwogeza said.

He said the initiative aligns with Uganda’s National Broadband Policy and Digital Transformation Roadmap, both of which recognize digital infrastructure, literacy, and innovation as key drivers of national development
