In a bid to raise civlc education among the general public, Electoral Commission (EC) has taken its voter education and outreach campaign to farmers in Jinja currently attending the 31st National Agricultural Show.

The week-long exhibition, which runs until 5th July 2025, has attracted thousands of Ugandans from across the country.

According to EC spokesman Julius Mucunguzi the big crowd of farmers presents an opportunity to bring electoral information and services closer to the public in an informal, interactive environment.

Deo Natukunda the regional election officer for Kira Region alongside technical staff from both the Commission’s headquarters and the Kira electoral office exhibited and guided farmers through key aspects of the electoral roadmap regarding the 2025/2026 General Elections.

Currently EC is carrying out electoral activities for Special Interest Groups (SIGs), which include Youth, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Workers, Older Persons, and members of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

The Commission is also using the occasion to promote civic responsibility and underscore the importance of active participation in democratic processes. Citizens are encouraged to ask questions, seek clarifications, and access voter education materials available at the stall.

“This outreach is part of our broader mission to ensure transparency, inclusion, and access to electoral information for all Ugandans—wherever they are,” Deo Natukunda, the Regional Election Officer for the Kira Region said.

He stressed that EC’s presence at the show is part of its continued effort to demystify electoral processes and build trust through consistent engagement, particularly in non-traditional and rural settings.
