Buganda Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga has urged Uganda entertainers to remain humble despite achieving fame, wealth, and public admiration, warning that pride is one of the biggest threats to long-term success

The Katikkiro of Buganda made the remarks during a courtesy visit by celebrated comedy duo Maulana and Reign at Bulange, where they held discussions about the growth and impact of Uganda’s entertainment industry.

Mayiga noted that true character is revealed when an individual gains influence and recognition but remains grounded.

“When you understand someone’s behavior, give them money, power, and fame; if they remain humble after getting all that, then that person is truly good,” he said.

Mayiga observed that many talented people struggle to manage the attention and influence that come with success. According to him, fame often breeds arrogance, causing individuals to lose focus and eventually damage their careers.

“The problem with many talented people is controlling fame and arrogance. They forget that pride comes before a fall,” he said.

Beyond his message on humility, Mayiga commended entertainers for the critical role they play in society. He said comedians, actors, and musicians provide much-needed relief from the pressures of daily life, helping people cope with stress and emotional challenges.

He explained that entertainment serves as a source of comfort and happiness for many people facing difficult situations, reducing the burden of anxiety, depression, and other stress-related conditions.

“Life comes with exhaustion, pressure, confusion, stress, and worry. These can take away a person’s peace and even lead to death. But entertainers help people forget their pain and regain happiness,” he said.

Mayiga further encouraged both entertainers and the public to prioritize rest and relaxation, emphasizing that taking time to refresh is essential for maintaining mental and emotional well-being.

“A person who relaxes and refreshes themselves is like a car that has been serviced,” he added.

Musicians in Kampala frequently visit the Katikkiro (Prime Minister) of the Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga, at Bulange-Mengo primarily to seek royal blessings, earn public legitimacy, and leverage the kingdom’s massive cultural following to promote their events

Receiving the Katikkiro’s endorsement provides artists with immense respect. It signifies that their work aligns with cultural values, which helps them win over conservative audiences and older demographics in Buganda.
