Uganda and Azerbaijan have signed memorandum of understanding to waive all visa requirement to for easy movement

The agreement was signed on Wednesday on sidelines of the 19th Ministerial Review Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

Gen. David Muhoozi, Minister of State for Internal Affairs, signed on behalf of the Republic of Uganda, while Samir Sharifov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, represented the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Okello Oryem.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visa waiver initiative is intended to facilitate smoother diplomatic exchanges and enhance efficiency in official engagements between Uganda and Azerbaijan.

“The visa waiver is meant to ease movement of officials of the two countries as engagements increase,” the ministry said.

The ministry added that this latest MoU builds on an earlier agreement on Political Consultations, which laid the foundation for deeper dialogue and structured cooperation between the Uganda Embassy in Tehran—accredited to Azerbaijan—and Azerbaijani authorities.

The ministry emphasized that the new understanding will remove travel barriers for officials and accelerate ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.

Holders of diplomatic and official passports will no longer be required to present visas after Uganda and Azerbaijan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on visa waivers .

The move aimed at easing the movement of government officials as engagements between the two countries increase.
