President Yoweri Museveni has ordered government agencies to accelerate infrastructure development across the country to beat tournament deadlines for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The directive followed a briefing at State House Entebbe involving the Confederation of African Football (CAF) leadership and Uganda’s tournament planning committee.
President Museveni met with CAF Secretary General Samson Adamu alongside the National AFCON Task Force, led by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, to assess Uganda’s operational readiness. Uganda will co-host the continental championship alongside Kenya and Tanzania under the joint “Pamoja” bid.
The President instructed state entities to immediately eliminate delays across key project sectors.
“I directed the relevant institutions to move faster, particularly on infrastructure, training grounds, roads, airport facilities and accommodation in the upcountry host cities,” President Museveni stated.
President Museveni emphasized that contractual targets and tournament benchmarks must align with strict international guidelines.
We must be ready on time and to the required standards,” President Museveni stressed.
To facilitate cross-border logistics during the competition, the President announced plans to harmonize regional travel policies across the three partner states.
“I will also engage my counterparts in Kenya and Tanzania on the proposed single visa arrangement to ease movement during the tournament,” President Museveni added.
The proposed joint visa framework aims to allow fans, delegations, and media personnel to traverse the East African host nations without multiple immigration barriers.
