The Ministry of Water and Environment and Envirosure Consulting warmly invite Government agencies, development partners, financial institutions, corporations, civil society organisations, academic institutions and sustainability practitioners to participate in the inaugural Environmental, Social and Governance conference slated for 25th September 2026
According to Permanent Secretary Ministry of Water and Environment Alfred Okot Okidi Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles have become one of the defining pillars of sustainable economic transformation worldwide.
“Governments, financial institutions, investors, corporations and development partners increasingly recognise that durable prosperity cannot be built without responsible environmental stewardship, inclusive social development and transparent governance,”he stated.
According to him,globally, ESG is reshaping how institutions attract investment, manage risk, measure impact and deliver sustainable value. Development finance institutions, multilateral agencies and private investors now expect demonstrable ESG performance as a condition of capital, making ESG not merely a compliance obligation but a strategic driver of competitiveness, resilience and institutional credibility.
Okidi said government has committed to building a climate-resilient, low-carbon and inclusive economy.
“Uganda is firmly embracing this transformation Through Vision 2040, the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV), the National Climate Change Act, Uganda’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), the Green Growth Development Strategy and a range of sectoral policies,”he sxplained.
“As the lead Government institution responsible for water resources, environmental management and climate change coordination, the Ministry of Water and Environment continues to champion policies and programmes that safeguard Uganda’s natural resources while advancing sustainable socioeconomic development,”he added.
Addressing the media in Kampala Okidi said this national platform will bring together policymakers, regulators, investors, financial institutions, development partners, academia, private sector leaders, sustainability practitioners and innovators to advance practical ESG solutions that seek to move Uganda from commitment to measurable action.
He further stressed that Uganda has a timely opportunity to position itself as a regional leader in sustainable investment, climate finance and responsible business by creating a national platform where policy meets practice. The National ESG Conference and Expo is designed to be exactly that platform.
Under the theme “Driving Transformation through ESG: From Commitment to Action” Okidi said the Conference will showcase practical ESG solutions that strengthen governance, unlock investment, build resilience and create lasting value for Uganda’s economy and society.
“The Conference seeks to promote ESG awareness across Government and the private sector,build institutional capacity in ESG integration and sustainability reporting,showcase innovations that support climate resilience and sustainable development,promote climate finance and responsible investment,position Uganda as a regional hub for ESG dialogue and sustainable investment and finally encourage organisations to move from ESG commitments to practical implementation,”he stated.
