The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration on statistical matters with the private sector through the provision and enhancing utilization of high-quality official statistics to support evidence-based planning, investment decisions, industrial development, and sustainable economic growth.

The commitment comes as Roofings Limited hosted the Bureau at the company’s manufacturing facility in the Kampala Industrial and Business Park, Namanve.

The UBOS delegation led by the Deputy Executive Director Dr. Vincent F. Ssenono, who represented the Executive Director and Chief Statistician of Uganda, Dr. Chris N. Mukiza was received by Dr. Martin F. Kyeyune, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, who welcomed the team and led a presentation on the company’s history, operations, investment journey, and contribution to Uganda’s economic development.

The engagement provided a platform for both institutions to explore opportunities for statistical collaboration especially in the areas of production and use of official statistics to support industrial planning, export development, investment decisions, and business growth.

Discussions also focused on how reliable data can enhance productivity, improve competitiveness, and contribute to Uganda’s industrial transformation. During the presentation, Roofings Limited highlighted its remarkable growth from an initial investment of US$2 million in 1994 to a business now valued at over US$500 million. The company also showcased its continued investment in value addition, expansion of manufacturing capacity, and export-oriented production, positioning itself among the leading steel manufacturers in East and Central Africa.

A more shared value was recognized in the importance of official statistics in supporting business growth and national development. Roofings Limited expressed interest in strengthening relations with UBOS in areas such as trade statistics, industrial production data, export market intelligence, and sectoral performance indicators. The company noted that working with UBOS, as Uganda’s official producer of national statistics, would provide access to credible, reliable, and timely data to support strategic planning, investment decisions, production planning, market expansion, and the identification of new export opportunities, while minimizing reliance on unverified sources of information.

UBOS reaffirmed its commitment to producing high-quality, reliable, and timely official statistics that meet the information needs of government, the private sector, development partners, and the general public.

The Bureau also underscored the importance of strengthening partnerships with industry players as a means of enhancing the National Statistical System and promoting the wider production and use of demand-driven official statistics for evidence-based decision-making.

The Chief Executive Officer of Roofings Group, Mr. Sheikh Arif, noted that the meeting provided an opportunity to further strengthen institutional relations and reaffirms the shared commitment to promoting data-driven decision-making as a catalyst for industrial growth, innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable economic development.
