In a major move toward integrating cutting-edge technology into higher education, Victoria University has launched a comprehensive Artificial Intelligence (AI) training initiative for all its faculty and administrative staff.
The hands-on workshop, held at the university’s campus along Jinja Road, ensures that academic deans, heads of departments, and administrative support teams are fully equipped to navigate the shifting demands of modern education. Rather than focusing purely on abstract theory, the training targets the daily, practical applications of AI tools in classroom instruction, data analytics, and operational workflows.

To deliver elite industry insights, the university brought in Tim Abels, a seasoned global technology executive. Abels, currently a Director of Innovation at Intel Corporation brings decades of high-level leadership experience from tech giants including Google, Dell, and Microsoft.
During the sessions, staff members engaged directly with modern AI frameworks to optimize university ecosystem tasks utilizing AI to efficiently draft and update robust curriculum outlines,Structuring interactive case studies and teaching aids to elevate student engagement and employing smart tools to gather data, review academic literature, and refine research methodologies.
“Our goal goes beyond simply teaching students about AI,” said Vice-Chancellor Dr Lawrence Muganga. “We want our graduates to leave Victoria University with the AI literacy, practical skills, and confidence to take on today’s labor market. That is why we are investing heavily in ensuring our teachers and support staff are learning together and staying ready for what comes next.”

This all-staff masterclass directly complements the university’s public-facing tech efforts, such as their popular AI Discovery Training Program, anchoring the institution as Uganda’s premier digital-first university.
Victoria University is a premier state of art private institution located in the heart of Kampala Uganda. Established in 2011 and officially awarded a prestigious university charter by the government in 2022, it operates under the Ruparelia Group a major conglomerate in East Africa. Led by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Lawrence Muganga, the university has quickly earned a reputation as a disruptive, modern academic center of excellence.
Unlike traditional academic systems that focus heavily on theory, Victoria University follows a specialized education formula focused on day-one employability. Through its Cooperative Education and Work-Integrated Learning programs, students gain concurrent industry experience while studying. The university structures its programs so that a student completing a 3-year degree typically graduates with 2 to 3 years of verifiable work experience.

Known as a pioneer in technologically-enabled education, the university developed its proprietary digital learning ecosystem, VClass, which supports flexible, hybrid, and online programs tailored for working professionals. To bridge the digital divide and ensure equal access, the university provides free laptops to students upon enrollment
In a market where high-quality private education is costly, Victoria University made waves by implementing a strategy to slash tuition fees by up to 50% during economic shocks. This initiative, backstopped by the university council and chairman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, was designed to keep top-tier digital and hands-on learning financially accessible
