Stanbic Bank Uganda has announced a comprehensive sponsorship package for the Uganda National Ladies’ Golf Team, enhancing their campaign  drive at the upcoming 2025 East and Central Africa All-Africa Challenge Trophy (ECA-AACT) in Naivasha, Kenya.

The sponsorship, confirmed thursday, covers the team’s entry fees, uniforms, travel, accommodation and per diem, allowing the players to focus solely on their performance at the tournament, scheduled for Oct. 20-25 at the Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort.

Catherine Makumbi, manager of executive banking and affluent express at Stanbic Bank, said the support aligns with the bank’s Women Prosperity Agenda.

“Supporting women in sport is part of how we deliver on our purpose: ‘Uganda is our home; we drive her growth,’” Makumbi said. “These ladies embody discipline, resilience, and ambition — the same values that fuel success in business and in life. For Stanbic, this is not just a sponsorship, it’s a swing toward equality.”

led by Coach Flavia Namakula, features captain Peace Kabasweka, Meron Kyomugisha and junior representative Keisha Kagoro. The players were selected based on the national order-of-merit rankings.

Rita Apell Akot, president of the Uganda Ladies Golf Union, praised Stanbic’s intervention as a “game-changer” for women’s golf.

“Stanbic’s support gives our ladies the confidence to play their best golf without worrying about logistics,” Akot said. “It’s partnerships like this that turn potential into performance.”

She added that the ECA-AACT, established in 2013, has been instrumental in growing women’s golf across Africa, fostering competition and talent development among nations including Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, Madagascar and Reunion.

The bank’s involvement is part of its broader “Stanbic for Her” initiative, which aims to support women entrepreneurs, professionals and athletes.

“When women win — on the course, in business, or in life — Uganda wins,” Makumbi said. “We’re proud to stand beside these remarkable golfers as they take their shot at history.”

Milton Chebet, assistant general secretary (technical) at the National Council of Sports, applauded the partnership at a flag-off ceremony in Kampala.

“Corporate partnerships such as Stanbic’s are what keep Uganda’s sporting ambitions on course,” Chebet said. “They help our athletes prepare, compete, and inspire the next generation.”

The tournament will feature 54 holes of stroke play over three days.
