President Yoweri Museveni has called on Ugandan youths to embrace government wealth creation programmes and reject leaders who thrive on empty politicking.
Museveni who is on his Parish Development Model (PDM) assessment tour in Wakiso District emphasized the importance of leveraging the peace and security guaranteed by the NRM government to advance household income and fight poverty.
“I encouraged them to seize the opportunities created by the current peace and security to improve their circumstances. Government programmes like the Skilling Hubs, the PDM, and the Four Acre Model are designed to lift families from poverty into the money economy,” he said.
The President, who began his tour in Maganjo, inspected Kagoma United Fabricators SACCO and Skilling Centre, an initiative he personally supported in 2018 to equip local youth with vocational skills in metal fabrication, plumbing, motor mechanics, electrical installation, and construction.
“I am happy to see that what we started is growing, the machines are functioning well, and the youth know how to use them,” Mr Museveni said after touring the facility.
The Parish Development Model (PDM) is a Ugandan government strategy aimed at transforming subsistence households into the money economy by bringing services closer to the people. It positions the parish as the lowest economic planning unit and aims to increase household incomes and improve quality of life by supporting Ugandans to increase their demand for goods and service.
Museveni who addressed hundreds of youths cautioned youth against electing leaders who are high on promises but low on delivery.
“Uganda’s progress depends on electing leaders who deliver results rather than merely making promises. Leadership should focus on achieving tangible outcomes,” he remarked.
Museveni’s wealth creation tour in Wakiso follows similar engagements in Greater Mpigi, Butambala, and Kayunga, where model farmers and skilled youth have been showcased as proof of the PDM’s impact.
