The road to the 2031 presidency is gaining unstoppable momentum as the Patriotic League of Uganda Secretariat cements its status as the country’s ultimate political endorsement hub.
In the latest high-profile power move, Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara led a powerful delegation of Members of Parliament and regional coordinators from the Bunyoro sub-region to the Naguru headquarters. Their mission: officially endorse Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and secure the sub-county endorsement books destined to mobilize grassroots support across Bunyoro.
The Bunyoro deployment is part of a massive, synchronized nationwide push. The PLU has officially upgraded its target, aiming to lock in a staggering 25 million endorsements across the country.
This aggressive mobilization follows Gen Kainerugaba’s definitive declaration on August 25, 2026:
“I will stand for the highest office in the land in 2031. And we will win by the grace of Almighty God.”he stated.
The initiative is drawing massive support from Uganda’s political and corporate elite. Former Vice-President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi—who served as Speaker of Parliament (2001–2011) and Vice-President (2011–2021)—officially signed the endorsement register, citing a need for stable transition.
“For continuity, Gen Muhoozi will be our candidate,” Ssekandi declared.
Ssekandi’s backing follows a string of major endorsements from other influential figures, including:Prof. Gilbert Bukenya (Former Vice-President),Sudhir Ruparelia (Billionaire Tycoon) and Godfrey Kirumira (Prominent Businessman)
The PLU’s regional network is showing immense strength, pulling in leaders from every corner of Uganda in Buganda more than 50 serving and former MPs recently converged at the Serena Hotel Kigo to pledge allegiance,in Teso over 300 regional leaders have collectively signed on to back the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Ankole five legislators physically delivered their declarations to the central secretariat.
The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) is a prominent civic organization and political pressure group in Uganda. Officially launched on February 7, 2024, it evolved out of the MK Movement, a mobilization group that originally promoted the political and presidential prospects of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
While PLU is legally registered as a non-partisan civic organization rather than a formal political party, it functions as a highly influential political force closely aligned with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM)
