MTN Uganda, through its charitable arm, the MTN Foundation, has announced a significant contribution to Faces Up Uganda, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to providing psychosocial support and empowerment of Ugandan youth.

The contribution, valued at UGX 20 million, includes five industrial and manual sewing machines, five desktop computers, an Epson sublimation printer, and unlimited internet connectivity for one year.

This support, which is part of MTN Changemakers Initiative launched last year, is designed to bolster Faces Up Uganda’s capacity to deliver comprehensive skills training and educational programs to the youth, fostering sustainable community development and economic growth.

The industrial and manual sewing machines will significantly expand the organization’s vocational training capabilities, while the desktop computers and sublimation printer are expected to introduce young people to digital literacy and entrepreneurial skills. Furthermore, internet connectivity will ensure that the beneficiaries remain connected to a world of online learning resources and opportunities.

Speaking during the handover event on Thursday, MTN Uganda CEO Sylvia Mulinge said the support towards Faces Up Uganda activities aligns with MTN’s Ambition 2025 Strategy which emphasizes creating leading digital solutions for Africa’s progress.

“Through our partnership with Faces Up Uganda, we at MTN Uganda, are reinforcing our commitment to empowering young people with the skills, technology, and confidence to shape their future, drive positive change in their communities, and contribute to the socio-economic development of Uganda,” Ms. Mulinge said.

“Our contribution is therefore more than just a support; it is a strategic investment in the future of our youth, providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed in the digital world.”

Ms. Mulinge said MTN Uganda’s strategic partnership with Faces Up Uganda is a testament to the power of collaboration between the private sector and non-profit organisations in driving social change, highlighting the power of ‘Together We’re Unstoppable.’

This development comes at the time the country’s youth are facing numerous challenges, including high rates of mental health issues and limited access to educational and economic opportunities.

“The support from MTN Uganda through the MTN Foundation is a game-changer for us at Faces Up Uganda. It enables us to expand our reach and enhance the quality of our programs, ultimately allowing us to empower more young people through our arts and skills training initiatives,” said Emmanuel Ssekitto Kalule, the Founder of Faces Up Uganda.

“We are incredibly grateful for this partnership, which not only amplifies our impact but also aligns perfectly with our mission to foster a supportive, creative, and empowered generation.”

Kalule said MTN’s support will enable the organization to train 20 youths every five months in the new hands-on skills training programs besides arts education initiative.

The MTN Foundation under the MTN Changemakers Initiative has earmarked UGX 500 million for 25 selected projects across the nation, spanning economic empowerment, education, health, water, sanitation, and hygiene, targeting youth, women, persons with disabilities, and rural communities.

Some of the beneficiaries include Kalaa Mugosi Women Empowerment in Sironko, Safe Water Uganda in Gulu City, Soul Rescue Mission in Kyegegwa, Rotaract Club of Masaka, Prime Time at Makerere University in Kampala and Tusitukire Wamu Development Association in Wakiso District.

Over the last decade, the MTN Foundation has dedicated UGX 30 billion towards more than 250 projects in education, health, youth empowerment, water, sanitation and hygiene, and humanitarian response significantly impacting communities nationwide and cementing its position as a catalyst for positive change and development in Uganda.
