As Uganda prepares to celebrate the 35th Heroes’ Day celebration on june 9th 2024, and pay tribute to 53 individuals for their extraordinary contributions, Office of the Prime Minister has released payment for civilian beneficiaries amounting to shs 3billion.
Officiating at the media centre Luweero Triangle Minister Alice Kaboyo advised the beneficiaries to use the money wisely to eradicate poverty.
“The released Akasiimo funds will pay 1,269 beneficiaries that were cleared by the veterans verification committee under the the 51st schedule from the Districts of Luwero, Nakasongola and Nakaseke,” Alice Kaboyo said.
According to her effective 2008,when the Akasiimo programme started to date June, government has so far verified and paid 87,269 beneficiaries in recognition of the support and contribution they gave during the liberation struggle 1981 to 1986.
“The veterans verification committee will continue verifying the civilians that have not yet been considered and my Office shall ensure that allocated funds for Akasiimo is paid to the right beneficiaries,” Kaboyo stressed.
Akasiimo is not commensurate to ones cobtribution but rather a thank you in recognition of ones contribution. I therefore wish to thank his Excellency the president of the Uganda who in his wisdom established tge Akasiimo programne on 2008.
Kaboyo explained that the list of 1,269 Akasiimo beneficiaries indicating their names, national identification numbers amount received, sub-county and districts will be displayed on the notice board of the respective beneficiary districts and Luwero regional office for ease of reference.
Uganda will celebrate Heroes day Under the resonant theme “Hail our legends: A Secure Uganda Is Now a Reality,” this year’s ceremony promises to be a poignant reflection on Uganda’s journey towards peace and prosperity.
Highlighting the significance of the event, Minister for the Presidency, Babirye Milly Babalanda, eloquently emphasized, “This is a historical day on which we reflect on the contributions of our heroes and heroines in the political and socio-economic transformation of Uganda.” Indeed, the occasion serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by countless individuals to secure Uganda’s future.
