EXECUTIVES CHALLENGED TO SEE PERSONAL BRANDING AS A LEADERSHIP IMPERATIVE

The Personal Branding Masterclass for Executives, hosted by award-winning Public Relations strategist and personal branding researcher Lyn Tukei, gathered 120 senior professionals, executives, and leaders at the Protea Skyz Hotel in Naguru for a sold-out half-day immersion.

Under the theme “Building a Personal Brand That Works as Hard as You Do”, the event reframed personal branding from a cosmetic career tool into a leadership and strategic advantage.

Participants were urged to view visibility not as vanity, but as a deliberate pathway to influence and impact.

Opening the session, Ms. Lyn Tukei stressed the evolving role of personal branding in modern leadership.

“Today, personal branding is not just a career tool; it’s a leadership imperative. At this inaugural masterclass, we unpacked bold ideas, challenged limiting beliefs, and built strategies to amplify both individual presence and organizational success,” she said

Josephine Okui Ossiya, CEO of the Capital Markets Authority, illustrated how intentional visibility, thought leadership, and alignment with one’s values can open doors to the highest levels of leadership.

“Building a credible personal brand is not about self-promotion, but about making your expertise, integrity, and leadership philosophy visible to the right audiences.”

The programme also brought research insights to life through a case study of Dr. Paul Kasenene, founder of The Wellcare Uganda clinic, whose journey featured in Ms. Tukei’s recent study, “Examining Online Personal Branding for Executives on X and its Influence on Public Perception of Companies”. Sharing how his authentic, health-focused online presence transformed both his reputation and business fortunes, Dr. Kasenene noted:

His credibility as a wellness authority directly boosted public trust in his clinic proving the tangible link between an executive’s digital footprint and organisational outcomes.

The day was enriched by contributions from other thought leaders including Jackie Tahakanizibwa, Shamim Walusimbi, Connie Nankya, Sumin Namaganda, Brian Mutungi, and Pepe Minambo, each delivering actionable strategies for leaders to blend authenticity with online influence.

Reinforcing the call to own one’s story, Ms. Tukei reminded participants that many professionals spend years doing the work, but very little time telling the story.

“Personal branding helps you own your narrative, position yourself as a trusted voice, and ensure your influence speaks long before you enter the room,” she added.

Looking ahead, she promised that this was only the beginning.”This was only the first chapter. More is coming, and trust me, you’ll want to be in the room when it happens.”
