Popularly loved by the media, Dr Chris Mukiza has broken Africa record and delivered Uganda’s first digital census in 30 days.

Uganda census enumeration ended on May 26th and its 26th June that Uganda Bureau of Statistics preliminary census results were released.

Uganda Bureau of Statistics, is the government agency responsible for the collection, analysis, dissemination and storage of nationally important data.

The ever joyful Mukiza holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Statistics awarded in 2008 by University of Southampton United Kingdom. His PhD thesis was titled “Essays On Growth And Absolute Poverty: Evidence From Uganda”.

Mukiza joined UBOS in March 2000. From 2009 until 2019, he served as the Director of Macroeconomic statistics at UBOS. In that position, he was part of a seventeen-person senior management team at the government agency

He beat three other applicants for the position of executive director of UBOS, including Imelda Madgalene Atai, who has been the Acting Executive Director from July 2018 until March 2019. Dr. Chris Mukiza replaced Ben Paul Mungyereza, who resigned in early 2018.

In his role as executive director, he also become a member of the UBOS Board of Directors.

Mukiza previously (in 1992) worked as a statistician at the Uganda Ministry of Finance. He then worked at the Uganda Revenue Authority from 1997 until 2000.

Mukiza plans to make the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, an excellent statistics production centre in the region and on the continent.

Under Dr. Mukiza’s stewardship, UBOS has witnessed significant strides, marking a testament to his visionary and transformational leadership.

His unwavering commitment to excellence has propelled the Bureau to achieve remarkable accomplishments over the past five years.

This decision stands as a resounding vote of confidence from key stakeholders including His Excellency Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda, and Hon. Matia Kasaija, the Minister of Finance Planning and Economic Development.

Their unwavering support underscores Dr. Mukiza’s invaluable contribution to the development and progress of Uganda.

Reflecting on his reappointment, Dr. Mukiza expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by both the leadership and staff of UBOS.

He emphasized his dedication to advancing the Bureau’s mandate of providing accurate and reliable statistical information crucial for informed decision-making and national development.

In his new term, Dr. Mukiza aims to build upon the successes of the past and lead UBOS towards even greater heights, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of statistical excellence in the region.

The reappointment of Dr. Chris Ndatira Mukiza as the Executive Director of UBOS signals continuity, stability, and a commitment to excellence in statistical governance, positioning Uganda for continued progress and prosperity.

This census underscores the importance of UBOS’s role in gathering essential data to inform policymaking and resource allocation, highlighting Dr. Mukiza’s leadership in steering the Bureau through significant national endeavors.
