On Sunday, 28th December, Bad Black will officially hold her Kukyala ceremony, with Long time bonkamgte and afriend Medie Sentongo and for the first time, the cultural moment will be exclusively streamed on Play It Loud for just UGX 5,000.
The Kukyala, a key traditional step in marriage preparations, is expected to be an emotional and intimate ceremony, bringing together family, close friends, and culture.

Bad Black gained notoriety for her lavish lifestyle, fraud conviction, and advocacy work
Born in 1989 in eastern Uganda, Namuyimbwa’s life story is one of significant transformation. After experiencing abuse at home, she ran away at 16 and started working as a sex worker in Kampala to survive. She focused on clients who paid in US dollars, often working at high-end hotels. During this time, she had children with different clients who later became her partners and discovered she was HIV positive
Namuyimbwa became famous in Uganda for her extravagant spending, earning her the nickname “Bad Black”. Her fame culminated in a high-profile court case where she and her then-boyfriend, Meddie Sentongo, were convicted of embezzling approximately US$3.8 million (around sh 11 billion at the time) from a real estate company she co-owned with a British businessman, David Greenhalgh. She was sentenced to four years in prison and served her term, being released in 2016
After her release, Bad Black largely moved away from a life of crime, focusing on personal development and advocacy.
She is a fierce advocate for sex workers’ rights and the LGBTI community in Uganda, co-founding the “Come Out Post Test Club” for transgender women living with HIV.
She has been involved in various media campaigns and, in 2021, enrolled at Victoria University in Kampala to study English and Digital Marketing, with the university appointing her as an ambassador to inspire others to better themselves.
She remains a popular social media figure, using platforms like TikTok to share her life journey and connect with a wide audience.
“Bad Black” is also the title of a critically acclaimed 2016 action-comedy film by the Ugandan low-budget studio Wakaliwood, which is loosely based on a true story. The film has gained international recognition, winning an Audience Award at Fantastic Fest.
