The Coordinator office of the National Chairman NRM Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, has launched nation wide distribution of agricultural seeds and farm inputs in Gomba District aimed at boosting food production after long drought season.
Agricultural inputs in Uganda include quality seeds,fertilizers,crop protection products and farm equipment available through government programs, private stockists, and digital platforms
Namyalo distributed high-yield maize and bean seeds, fertilizers and selected pesticides to support farmers across Maddu’s 19 villages.
Namyalo says the initiative aims to counter food insecurity, improve household incomes, and help small-scale farmers access affordable, climate-suitable inputs to boost food production.
“This effort aligns with the ONC’s broader “Boosting Micro Agricultural Processing” campaign, which encourages local value addition before selling farm produce,”
Namyalo cautioned beneficiaries against misusing the inputs, stressing the importance of turning agricultural support into increased food production and household income.
The initiative also attracted calls for expanded support targeting youth and women.
Addressing farmers and local leaders where distributed maize and bean seeds, fertilizers and pesticides, among other agricultural inputs, to support farmers during the planting season.Namyalo said farmers had endured prolonged periods of drought resulting into low agricultural production and household livelihoods.
“We have finished the election period and now it is time for work,” Hajjat Namyalo told the gathering, urging farmers to use the rains to return to their gardens and increase food production.
she stressed that agriculture remains an important avenue through which communities can strengthen household incomes, particularly when farmers receive timely inputs and make effective use of the available planting seasons.
Namyalo called upon farmers and local leaders to work together to improve household income generation.
Julius Kibirige, the NRM Chairperson for Maddu, appealed for vocational training and equipment, including sewing machines, to help women establish small businesses.
Maddu Town Council Mayor Alali Muhiirwa Kabaleega highlighted youth unemployment and requested practical equipment such as popcorn machines, brickmaking units, salon kits and tailoring tools.
Namyalo confirmed that the agricultural distribution programme would be complemented by vocational and enterprise empowerment tools. She said future distributions would include equipment for bricklaying, welding and other technical trades.
The NRM Chairperson for Maddu, Julius Kibirige, hailed Namyalo for considering farmers in the area, saying the town council has 19 villages whose residents need interventions that can improve household incomes.
Kibirige said Greater Maddu has continued to support the NRM and President Yoweri Museveni and asked that the community also benefit from programmes aimed at skilling residents and strengthening economic activity.
He called for more opportunities for vocational training and women empowerment, including support with equipment such as sewing machines and other tools that can enable women to establish small businesses.
He appealed for greater attention to youth empowerment, including support with small business equipment such as popcorn-making machines, bricklaying machines saloon equipment s and sowing machines saying practical interventions could help young people create employment for themselves.
