About 600 business enthusiasts and exhibitors are to attend ninth Oil and Gas Convention slated for April 17th to 18th in Kampala courtesy of Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum (UCMP).

Under the theme, “The Journey to First Oil In The Face Of a Just Energy Transition In Uganda,” Aggrey Ashaba, Secretary General of UCMP, says the convention resonates with the ongoing global discourse surrounding energy transition.

“It underscores the imperative need for adopting sustainable environmental and social governance practices, underscoring Uganda’s commitment to responsible resource extraction,” Ashaba said.

He said the convention stands as a pivotal platform for industry stakeholders to convene and exchange insights on the latest developments within the oil and gas sector.

“Beyond fostering dialogue, the convention also serves as a sprawling marketplace, offering an expansive exhibition space for showcasing a myriad of goods and services intricately linked to the industry’s operations,” Ashaba stressed.

He added that a focal point of discussion will undoubtedly be the staggering $7.1 billion worth of contracts allocated for services in the oil sector. These contracts encompass a vast spectrum of activities ranging from camp management and drilling to waste management and warehousing, underscoring the breadth of opportunities that abound within the industry’s expansive ecosystem.

According to Ashaba 50 exhibitors have been drawn from sectors spanning oil and gas exploration and production to labor skilling, entrepreneurship, insurance, finance, logistics and transport, hospitality and tourism, QHSSE, engineering, construction, and manufacturing.

In February 2022, TotalEnergies EP Uganda, CNOOC Uganda Limited, the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) announced that they had reached the Final Investment Decision (FID) to invest $20billion for the upstream oil production projects and the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).

A consortium led by U.S.-McDermott International and Chinese-Sinopec was awarded the $2 billion for engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) for the development of 31 well beds and a central processing facility of the Tilenga onshore oil field that will generate up to 200,000 barrels per day, operated by TotalEnergies
