Uganda’s Johnson Omollo has been re-elected President of the Africa Golf Confederation (AGC), securing an unopposed victory during the General Assembly held in Hammamet, Tunisia.
Omollo, who first took the continental helm in 2022 in Egypt, was endorsed by 18 member countries present at the assembly, with a total of 31 nations backing his leadership. The election was held on the sidelines of the ongoing All Africa Team Championship at La Foret Golf Course and received full endorsement from The R&A, the world governing body of golf.
“This is not my victory; it is Africa’s victory. We will champion Pan-Africanism through golf,” Omollo stated in his acceptance speech. “One Africa, One Golf! We shall embark on operationalisation of our Cooperation agreement with the Arab Golf Federation to achieve our set objectives on technical, financial and development agenda for both regions.”
The election coincided with the largest All Africa Team Championship ever staged, featuring a record 17 nations competing. The regional leadership breakdown includes:
Omollo previously served as AGC Vice President from 2013 and led the Uganda Golf Union in 2016/2017. His leadership model prioritizes grassroots development, junior golf investment, and intra-African cooperation. He consistently urges African nations to mobilize domestic resources rather than depend on external support, viewing high participation in events like the All-Africa Junior Team Championship as the key to securing development grants and building future champions.
Moving into his 2026–2030 term, Omollo’s primary focus will be translating his “One Africa, One Golf” vision into concrete programs. This includes activating the cooperation agreement with the Arab Golf Federation to drive coach and referee exchanges, alongside targeted youth and women’s golf development across the continent.
Golf experts view Omollo’s re-election as a major win for continuity, particularly for grassroots development and youth infrastructure. A seasoned sports administrator, Omollo served as AGC Vice President from 2013 and previously led the Uganda Golf Union during the 2016/2017 season.
Throughout his tenure, Omollo has fiercely advocated for continental self-reliance, urging African nations to mobilize domestic financial resources rather than over-relying on external support. He emphasizes that strong domestic participation in premier events like the All-Africa Junior Team Championship is the gateway to unlocking vital development grants and grooming future global champions.
Looking forward to his 2026–2030 mandate, Omollo’s priority centers on executing his “One Africa, One Golf” blueprint. Key initiatives on his immediate agenda include rolling out the newly minted cooperation pact with the Arab Golf Federation, which will introduce intensive coach and referee exchange programs, alongside major development pathways for youth and women’s golf across Africa.
