dfcu Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to improving customer experience and ensuring long term competitiveness through digital integration, digital transformation and the strengthening of its digital infrastructure.

The bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Charles Mudiwa, said upgrading core systems was essential to making dfcu future ready and better equipped to meet the evolving needs of its customers.

Mudiwa was speaking to Bbeg Media after dfcu signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding with global technology firm IBM and IBM Platinum Partner Envision Global at the bank’s head offices in Nakasero, Kampala.

“Today’s customers are increasingly demanding higher levels of service, convenience and reliability, driven by rapid technological change. To that effect, dfcu is focused on enabling customers to access modern banking services seamlessly, allowing them to bank wherever they are, whenever they want and without unnecessary barriers,” Mudiwa said.

The memorandum of understanding formalises a long term strategic partnership aimed at strengthening the bank’s digital infrastructure and transforming how it connects with customers, partners and the wider financial ecosystem.

Under the agreement, the partners will develop and deploy an enterprise grade software integration platform known as an API Gateway. The platform will allow dfcu to securely and efficiently connect its internal systems with external partners, enabling faster collaboration, product co creation and innovation across sectors such as banking, insurance, telecommunications, education and other industries.

Musa Musazi, dfcu’s chief technology, digital and operations officer, said the primary role of the API Gateway is system integration, acting as a bridge that allows seamless communication between the bank and its partners.

He added that through the platform, customers of both dfcu and partner institutions will be able to access each other’s products and services, enhancing reach and value for all stakeholders.

IBM will bring to the partnership its globally developed API Gateway technology, an enterprise grade integration solution designed to support secure, scalable and reliable connectivity.

Envision Global will be responsible for implementing and deploying the platform within dfcu’s ecosystem, ensuring it meets agreed quality standards, timelines and enterprise requirements.

The bank said the API Gateway will be a core component of its long term digital transformation strategy, positioning it as a foundational digital asset for the bank’s future growth.
