MultiChoice Uganda has officially launched its FIFA World Cup 2026 coverage in Uganda, unveiling comprehensive Super Sport broadcast plans, affordable subscription packages, and customer promotions ahead of the global tournament scheduled from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
Approximately 5.6 billion people engage with the FIFA World Cup tournament across all media platforms, making it the most widely viewed and followed sporting event in the world.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be hosted across the United States, Mexico and Canada, will feature 48 national teams competing in 104 matches, all of which will be broadcast live on SuperSport across DStv, GOtv, DStv Stream and GOtv Stream platforms.
Speaking at the launch, Hassan Saleh, Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Uganda, said the tournament marks a significant milestone for African football, with a record 10 African nations qualifying for the global competition.
“This is a proud moment for African football. We are excited to see South Africa, Ghana, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire and the Democratic Republic of Congo represent the continent on the biggest stage in world football,” he said.
Saleh noted that subscribers will benefit from 24-hour coverage through dedicated SuperSport World Cup channels, alongside a special pop-up channel dedicated to the tournament.
He added that beyond live matches, viewers will access highlights, expert analysis, magazine shows, African football features, and behind-the-scenes content, with enhanced viewing experiences including local commentary in Kiswahili and other languages.
On DStv, the World Cup will be available on SuperSport World Cup Channel 222, SuperSport World Cup Extra Channel 223, and SuperSport World Cup Swahili Channel 224. GOtv subscribers will access coverage on SuperSport World Cup Central Channel 361, SuperSport World Cup Pass Channel 363, and SuperSport World Cup Extra Channel 365.
Colin Asiimwe, Head of Marketing at MultiChoice Uganda, said the company is also strengthening its streaming services to meet changing viewing habits.
“Subscribers will be able to watch the World Cup at their convenience anytime, anywhere through the DStv Stream and GOtv Stream apps on smart TVs, smartphones, tablets, and laptops,” he said.
He emphasized affordability as a key priority, noting that access to World Cup content will be available on DStv Access and GOtv Plus packages.
DStv Access subscribers will pay Shs49,000 per month, while GOtv Plus subscribers will pay Shs36,000 per month. Customers can also opt for a flexible seven-day Ka Weekie subscription at Shs15,000 for DStv Access and Shs11,500 for GOtv Plus.
“We want every Ugandan to enjoy every moment of the tournament live on SuperSport at an affordable price,” Asiimwe said.
As part of the campaign, MultiChoice Uganda also announced decoder and hardware promotions running from May 11 to August 31, 2026. DStv Standard decoders will retail at Shs20,000, DStv Zapper decoders at Shs15,000, Explora decoders at Shs559,000, and full kits at Shs45,000, while GOtv decoders (Gotenna) will cost Shs15,000.
He added that the promotions aim to make it easier for households to upgrade or join the DStv and GOtv platforms ahead of the tournament.
Customers will also participate in the SuperSport Predict and Win campaign via the DStv Stream app, where fans will forecast match outcomes for a chance to win prizes throughout the tournament.
France entered the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar as the defending champions, having won the previous tournament in 2018. During the 2022 competition, they successfully reached the final again, where they were defeated by Argentina in a penalty shootout after a 3-3 draw.
