Today, Uganda has launched the Implementation Guidelines and Coordination Mechanism for Protective Helmet Standards for motorcycle users during the ongoing Africa Industrialization Week 2025 at Commonwealth Resort Hotel in Munyonyo.
The guidelines provide information on how to implement the requirements for protective helmets and other personal protective equipment product standards.

By making helmets a mandatory and standard part of motorcycle sales and operations, the government encourages a culture of safety awareness and accountability among riders.
The guidelines are part of a broader strategy to streamline the boda boda industry, which includes other measures like licensing and passenger limits to address the root causes of accidents.
Standardized helmets with unique identification numbers, and the requirement for riders to wear reflective jackets with their details, helps in tracking and identifying individuals involved in an accident.
