Airtel Uganda has contributed shs37.9 billion to the Uganda Communications Universal Service and Access Fund (UCUSAF), to expand digital access across the country.
Uganda Communication Commission Executive Director Nyombi Thembo praised Airtel Uganda for its compliance and leadership in advancing digital inclusion.
“Universal access cannot be achieved by government alone—it requires collaboration with industry stakeholders. Airtel’s contribution is not just about meeting obligations; it is an investment in Uganda’s socio-economic transformation,” Thembo said. He emphasized the Fund’s role in empowering farmers, students, and entrepreneurs through digital tools.
Airtel Uganda Managing Director Soumendra Sahu reaffirmed the company’s dedication to bridging the digital divide.“This contribution is a strategic investment in Uganda’s future—where every citizen, regardless of location, has access to reliable and affordable communication services,” he stated.
Sahu also highlighted Airtel’s recent innovations, including Uganda’s first Spam Alert Service, designed to protect customers from fraudulent communications. The company’s investments in 4G LTE expansion and network modernization have earned it recognition as Uganda’s first anti-spam telecom network.
Airtel’s shs 37.9 billion contribution underscores its role in advancing Vision 2040 and the Digital Uganda Framework, aligning with national efforts to build an inclusive digital economy.
“We are committed to making connectivity a reality for all Ugandans,” Sahu concluded.
Despite progress, Uganda’s rural communities still face connectivity challenges, with mobile internet penetration at 52% as of early 2025. Public-private partnerships remain crucial in addressing infrastructure gaps and ensuring equitable access to digital opportunities.
