The National Unity Platform (NUP) diaspora community in the United States has officially suspended its financial support to the party, demanding a full accountability report detailing how funds donated over the past four years have been used.
The decision was made following several failed attempts to get transparency from the party’s top leadership. According to the diaspora members, NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has sent different individuals over the years to request more donations, but no financial reports have ever been shared.
The update was made public on Monday, June 2, 2025, by Justice Hunter, also known as Sseguya Hillary Taylor Innocent, a prominent leader of the NUP U.S. diaspora chapter. He posted the statement on his official X account, following a meeting held on May 31, 2025, at Boston Town Hall.
The meeting was attended by NUP Deputy Spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, who was reportedly sent by Bobi Wine to request more funding in preparation for the 2026 general elections.
However, Hunter said the diaspora team firmly rejected the appeal.
“It’s unfortunate that Bobi Wine is playing with people’s money and time. Even if he comes in person, we will not give him a single coin,” Hunter declared.
He explained that in April 2025, Bobi Wine had previously sent his brother and Chairman of Mobilization, Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, with a similar request. At the time, diaspora members insisted on receiving a detailed accountability report before offering more support.
The U.S. NUP supporters, who number over 1,000 committed members, have reportedly been contributing between $200 and $500 per month each. They say it’s only fair that they understand how their money has been used.
Hunter added that Nyanzi promised to take their concerns back to Bobi Wine and respond within a week, but since then, no report has been issued and Nyanzi has not answered phone calls or messages.
