The Vice Chancellor of Clarke International University (CIU) Dr Rose Clarke Nanyonga has asked Parliament to expedite the process to ensure that student loan scheme benefits all university students to improve higher education uptake.

Presiding over the university 14th graduation ceremony Nanyonga said eligible students are failing to complete university because of lack of tuition fees to secure their university education.

“We would government to extend loan scheme to all universities to ensure that those eligible for university education can complete their education,” she said.

The University Chancellor Dr Moses Galukande urged graduates to embrace positive mind set and good attitude towards work to excel.

“As you embark on your next 0hase of yoyr journey, i urge you to embrace change with courage and conviction. The world we live in is constantly evolving, presenting new opportunities and complexities tgat demand creative solution abd Visionary leadership. As graduate of CUI you are well equipped to meet tgese challenges head on and to make meaningful contributions to your communities and your profession,”he said.

CIu is a university in Uganda, accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education and is a non-residential university recognized for its business and health science training courses.

Recently ministry of education resumed student loan scheme hence more students are bound to continue with education.

The Ministry of Education and Sports started the implementation of Financing Higher Education studies for Ugandans through the Higher Education Students’ Financing Act, 2014 by setting up the Higher Education Students Financing Board (HESFB).

The objective of the Board is to increase equitable access to higher education in Uganda and also support qualified students who may not afford higher education.

The Higher Education Students Financing Board has been established to address the problem of inequitable access to higher education by many Ugandan citizens given the large number of dropouts due to their inability to meet the costs of higher education.

The HESFB Board has therefore invited applications from eligible Ugandan students who have been admitted in their first year under the listed Undergraduate Diploma and Degree programmes for the Academic Year 2023/24 in the Public Universities, Private Chartered Universities and the listed Other Tertiary Institutions.
The Applications officially commenced on Monday 4th March, 2024 and the deadline for application ended on 15th March, 2024.
The Student Loan shall cover tuition fees and functional fees. The loan shall also cover Aids and Appliances for persons with disabilities, while research funds may be covered as and when budget allows.
