President Yoweri Museveni has joined Members of Parliament in a special sitting to honor fallen former Second Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda and Adjumani West County MP, Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali.

Gen Moses Ali passed on at Nakasero Hospital on Saturday, where he was rushed to on Friday for urgent medical care.
Gen Moses Ali’s body was received by the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon. Oboth Oboth, and Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa.
While eulogising the deceased following a formal wreath-laying tribute, President Museveni described him as a freedom fighter, a peacemaker and a development person who preferred dialogue to confrontation.
“I came here to give witness to the positive attributes I saw with Gen Moses Ali, number one freedom fighter, he was a peacemaker, and a development person” he said.
He added, “I hear even in the Muslim group, that’s why his body had to be taken to Old kampala, kibuli and Naguru, I dint know which faction he belonged to among the Muslims, but apparently he belonged to no faction, he was neutral, this is the Moses Ali I saw, May his Soul Rest In Eternal life.
Born on April 5, 1939, in Adjumani district, in Pakele Division, Gen Ali served as Uganda’s Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business until the recent 2026 cabinet reshuffle.
He’s political career began under the regime of Idi Amin in the 1970s, when he served as a minister and handled the country’s finances before later becoming leader of the Uganda National Rescue Front, an armed movement based largely among communities in the West Nile region.
In November 1986, months into Museveni’s rule, he signed a peace agreement with the new government, and his fighters were integrated into the national army.
He went on to serve as a Member of Parliament from 1996 and held a string of Cabinet portfolios over the years, including internal affairs, tourism, and disaster preparedness and refugees, before rising through the ranks of deputy prime minister.
He also served as president of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations in the mid-1990s.
Gen Ali represented East Moyo County in Adjumani district in Parliament from 2011 and also served as Third Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament from May 2011 to June 2016, before being appointed First Deputy Prime Minister, a position he held until May 2021.
Following Parliament’s special sitting, the body of the fallen General, will be flown to Adjumani District ahead of his burial scheduled for Thursday.
