The State Minister for Energy Phina Nyamutooro has reaffirmed that Uganda’s energy future will be shaped by technology, innovation and sustainability.
Speaking in line with the National Development Plan IV and the Government’s tenfold economic growth strategy, she emphasized that energy must go beyond powering homes to driving industrialisation, creating decent jobs, boosting productivity and transforming lives.
“As per NDPIV and the Government’s ambition of achieving the ten fold economic growth strategy, our responsibility is no longer simply to increase electricity generation or extend transmission lines. Our responsibility is to ensure that energy becomes the engine that accelerates industrialization, creates wealth, improves productivity, generates decent jobs and transforms the lives of our people,”she said.
“We therefore see energy not merely as infrastructure but as an economic infrastructure. Every megawatt we generate should power a factory, every transmission line should unlock production, every mineral extracted should support value addition, every technology we deploy should improve efficiency, reduce costs and create new opportunities for enterprise.,”she added..

she made the remarks while opening the fourth edition of the Power and Elec Expo in Uganda. under the theme: Electrifying the Future:Innovation Pathways to powering the Tenfold Growth Energy Demand
The minister stated that energy is no longer just infrastructure, but “economic infrastructure” designed to drive industrialization, create jobs, and achieve the government’s tenfold economic growth strategy
She also highlighted that strong partnerships today will accelerate Uganda’s clean energy transition and unlock sustainable economic growth for generations to come emphasizing that the goal is to go beyond simply extending transmission lines and increasing generation.

“The focus is on using energy to unlock production and accelerate industrialization. out four specific responsibilities for Uganda’s energy and mineral growth must ensure that every megawatt generated should power a factory,Every transmission line must unlock production,Every extracted mineral must support value addition and Every deployed technology must improve efficiency, reduce costs, and create enterprise opportunities.
Her remarks at the Power and Elec Uganda exhibition were rooted in the Fourth National Development Plan (NDPIV) and the national ambition to generate wealth and improve citizen productivity.
She underscored that technology, sustainability, and global impact are shaping Uganda’s energy future, urging that strong partnerships will accelerate the country’s clean energy transition.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Exhibitions & Trade Services India Private Limited (ETSIPL) Divjay Singh said the primary objective of the annual Power & Electricity Expo is to promote sustainable industrialization ,boost local manufacturing and accelerate the transaction toward clean renewable energy solutions across East Africa.
He further said that expo connects international suppliers, investors, and policymakers to fund critical energy infrastructure and regional development projects.
“The expo show cases cutting-edge technologies in solar power, energy efficiency, smart metering, and decentralized power solutions and aligns private sector innovation with national frameworks (such as Uganda’s Vision 2040) to ensure reliable energy reaches enterprises, creates jobs, and drives economic returns,”he stressed.
Singh leads the Indian-based global exhibition and trade promotion company, which is well-known for organizing major international industry expos such as the Uganda Pharma & Healthcare International Exhibition at the UMA Show Grounds in Lugogo, Kampala
